An introduction to my currently untitled series of stories.

All right, so this is more so a ficlet…I didn't think you all deserved a one shot. It's not going to really have a medical plot; just think of it as the part of the Season 4 Premiere that doesn't deal with the medical part. (Sorry, I didn't feel like researching yet) So, it'll basically explain why Dr. Austen was hired, etc. Get it? Got it? Good. Let's get started. (Oh, isn't this such a great title?)

Prologue – Chapter 1

"Why do I have to hire a new doctor?" House moaned.

"You were lucky enough to be able to rehire Foreman, Cameron, and Chase; don't push it," Cuddy replied without an ounce of emotion, as she usually spoke to House. She threw a few files into a box.

"Aren't they enough to deal with? Do we really need to adopt another?" House picked up a file from a box and put it back.

Cuddy smirked in a displeased way, putting more files in a box. "You do what I say."

"Why, 'cause you run the hospital?"

"That and I saved your ass from jail." Cuddy shoved a few boxes of applications in House's hands as she went to leave her office and gestured to the boxes filling the room. "There are your applicants."

"Do I have to?" he whined.

"Just do it." Cuddy left her office, allowing the door to slam behind her.

House looked at the boxes and cursed. There were at least twenty-five minimum; he was supposed to go through all of these for one person? How was he even supposed to get it up to his office?! House glanced around mischievously and picked up the phone, dialing a number.

"Cameron, I've got a job for all of you," House remarked into the phone, "Get down to Cuddy's office now."

He put the phone down and tapped his fingers on Cuddy's desk until Foreman, Chase, and Cameron all came in and stared blankly at the boxes.

"What's the symptoms?" Cameron asked in awe.

"One cane plus twenty-five boxes equals unable to move it from office to office."

"You're having us carry all these to your office?" Chase was irritated.

"Gold star for Chase! Next gold star goes to whoever can carry the most…and go!" The doctors looked at each other, sighed, and picked up boxes. "See? This won't take any time at all."

House let out a frustrated sigh and popped two pills. He did not want to hire another doctor; he had enough trouble with these three. House flipped opened another one and slammed it shut, tossing it in a pile of "Not Hire" applications. Wilson came in and looked curiously at the frustrated House.

"What's going on?" Wilson asked.

"As if it weren't enough to go begging to my doctors for them to come back, Cuddy wants me to hire another."

"And no amount of Vicodin can fix this?"

House got up, beginning to hobble towards the door. "Vicodin can cure everything."

"You know, it wouldn't hurt to have another doctor around."

"Yeah, I need another doctor like I need another crippled leg." House slammed the door behind him as he stormed at Cuddy.

"Yeah, 5 more CCs ought to do it," Cuddy told a nurse as she walked away.

"I cannot hire another doctor!"

"You have to House." Cuddy attempted to walk away. House pursued.

"I don't need hematologists or ENTs or nephrologists. I do just fine with an immunologist, intensivist, and neurologist."

"Then hire another one."

"What?"

"If you do "just fine" with those three, get another one."

House remained in his spot as Cuddy walked away. "Another one?" House remarked.

Well, you really don't need to review unless you want to. I know, you're all thinking, "Hey, Claire, what's with the short chapter, huh?". It's just a little prologue to New Tricks. At least I wrote something! I've been working hard over the summer on fan fics and original stories (not that I posted them, but I've gotten some good writing done).
