Several hours later, Abby was sitting in the OR waiting room. She saw Peter Benton coming towards the room and quickly stood up as he got to the door. She didn't even give him enough time to open his mouth before she started talking.
"How is he?" Abby begged for information.
"He had very serious injuries."
"I know. How is he?" Abby asked again.
"He's stable for the moment."
"Can I see him?"
"He's not supposed to have visitors, but since you have hospital clearance, I'll sneak you in."
"Thank you Peter." Benton gave Abby an embarrassed smile and led her to John's room.
As she walked in, the first thing she noticed was the beeping sounds that were echoing through the room. She then saw the bed in the corner of the room with a body lying on it. She slowly walked over to the bed and saw John. He had a bandage wrapped around his head and his left arm and his right leg were both in casts.
"Where's his jacket?"
"Huh?" Peter asked, suddenly jolted out of a daydream back into the reality world.
"His jacket, there's something in it that I need."
"I'll go look downstairs for you."
"Thank you." She said turned back to the person sleeping in front of him. She found a chair in another corner of the room and brought it beside the bed and sat down.
"This is all my fault. If I had told you in the first place this would never have happened. I'm pregnant; and I want to marry you and have a family with you." Abby started crying as she said these words to him. She didn't realize how much time had gone by that she sat there and cried until there was a knock on the door and it opened a crack.
"Can I come in?" Jing-Mei Chen's head popped through the door.
"Sure."
"How is he?" Jing-Mei asked shutting the door quietly behind her.
"Stable. He's still unconscious though. Were you in the ER when he came in?"
"Yeah. I was with another patient though. My shift just ended and I wanted to come see how he was doing. Uh, do you want to go get some coffee at Doc's?"
"No, I think I'm just gonna stay here for a while."
"Do you need anything? From your house?"
"I'm fine." Abby semi-snapped, but after realizing how she must have sounded continued, "Thank you for offering. If I need anything, I'll let you know."
"Okay. See you later. Oh, I almost forgot. Peter Benton said you were looking for this." Jing-Mei said and handed a man's jacket over to Abby. It had a little blood on it, but the appearance wasn't what Abby cared about. After giving it to Abby, Jing-Mei left the room.
After the door shut Abby just breathed a long sigh
