AN- YAY MORE ONESHOTS WHEN I SHOULD BE UPDATING THE STORIES THAT I HAVEN'T FOR A WHILE. I'm kidding. Anyways, enjoy.
I only own my OC.
Aiden Maen, one of the few human Azkaban guards, wondered why Sirius Black was muttering the name of the man he had betrayed over and over, in a way that seemed kind. Black couldn't have felt sorry- it was well known that Black was merciless. Aiden enjoyed tuning in to what Black muttered- along with the "James" there were usually mentions of "bloody rat," "such a damn idiot," and "sorry… my fault… I love you…."
Aiden always asked for Black's cell- the muttering entertained him. He knew how strange it was, how sadistic, how cruel, but it was laughable, the incessant cries of "I'M SORRY!," the whimpering, the hysterical cries. Plus, the job got him more chocolate than any other did.
Aiden remembered Black at Hogwarts- he was a year above Black and James Potter, and their little gang, and in a different House, but he remembered them. Arrogant prats, but still amusing. He wondered how Black had turned out like this, the insane mutterer in the cell that was guarded much more than anyone.
Sometimes, Aiden wonders if Black really does mean the things he says. He doubts it, but it makes for a good thought, and because he's working at Azkaban, he needs those. Still, if it is true…. He wonders what really happened.
"James…."
"Black-"
"Shut the hell up! I know! It's all my fault! I didn't mean to give you to the traitor, Jamie!" Aiden knows something isn't right about the story- Black thinks he didn't betray the Potters, but everyone says he did. Aiden isn't sure who to believe, even though his conscience is telling him not to trust the madman.
"Black, could you tell me what happened?" Aiden can't believe he's doing this- Ravenclaws are not known for bravery or impulsiveness; that was the Gryffindors.
"YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE ME! NO ONE DOES! I LOST MY BROTHER! MY REAL ONE AND JAMIE! FUCK YOU!"
Aiden is not surprised- at least not completely. Black hates prison, it's completely obvious. The brothers comment did surprise Aiden, however, why would someone consider the man they helped kill their brother?
Black has escaped. Aiden no longer works in Azkaban, he is currently employed with a desk job in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. He realizes that maybe Black was innocent, considering how corrupt the Ministry is. Sometimes, Aiden misses the muttering- Black's voice was familiar to Aiden, and it sounded nice- maybe that was why Aiden was so entertained by the muttering. Reports of Black being sighted are popping up, and Aiden hears that voice, "I'M SORRY!"
Black is dead and innocent. What Black had said was true- According to Dumbledore, at least, and Dumbledore was a reliable source, in Aiden's opinion. Aiden still hears the voice, so insane, and loves it. Aiden wonders why he loves Black's voice so much, why he's so interested in Black. Black was a madman, and Aiden Maen loved it. Maybe it was just him, or maybe it was the world.
