Disclaimer: Neither the boys nor anything related to Supernatural belongs to me. I'm just having some fun with the boys, playing around with Eric Kripke's sandbox.

MIDNIGHT APPROPRIATIONS

By: Vanessa Sgroi

Dean paced the length of the basement eyeing the rows of mysterious jars lining the battered shelves, studying their labels. "What do you think all this stuff is?" His brow wrinkled at the questionable-looking, if not colorful, contents on display.

"I dunno," Sam responded from the deep murk behind his flashlight. "Don't really want to either. Let's just find what we're here for and get the hell out. This place is creepy."

"Most of the places we go are creepy, Sammy."

"Good point."

Dean suddenly tripped over something unseen on the floor, bumping a shoulder into a shelf. Swearing, he steadied himself but was unable to catch a jar that tumbled to the floor.

Flicking his flashlight in Dean's direction, Sam asked, "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just tripped."

A noxious odor filled the room.

"Holy shit, what is that smell?" gurgled Sam.

Pulling his jacket over his mouth and nose, Dean gagged, moved away from its source. "Dunno but let's hurry the hell up."

"Right—right. Hey, found it!" Sam grabbed the jar. The Winchesters raced for the stairs and burst through the wooden storm doors.

"Whew," Dean coughed, "I hope we don't turn into chickens or something now."
