The sun was quietly setting behind Death City when Maka looked out her window while making dinner. It had surprisingly been a quiet weekend, without too much to worry about, aside from the occasional outburst from Blair. Soul had helped her organize her library, and they went out to lunch earlier. But even though it was extremely peaceful, there was something bothering her: Soul Eater Evans.

In recent months, she had been confused about their relationship. Just simply "meister and weapon" didn't suit it anymore. It was more along the lines of "meister might have feelings for weapon but isn't confident enough to conform it". She eyed Soul watching T.V in the other room, and when he looked over at her, she turned away red. Maka never knew what to make of his actions; from holding her hands to hugging, she thought he was trying to confuse her. And it hurt being insecure about not knowing what he was thinking. Soul was like the one book Maka couldn't read, and she had somehow made it through Ulysses for crying out loud! Was there something she was missing? Or was this a puzzle that couldn't be solved? The more she thought about it, the more it upset her.

Soul tried hard to focus on whatever the T.V show was saying about Chopin, but he just couldn't do it, not when Maka was there. He looked up from the screen and caught her staring at him. He held her gaze for a few seconds until she turned away, but found it hard to pry his eyes away from her form. The thought of Maka just made the heat rise to his cheeks, and he knew he had loved her from the moment he met her. But the only problem was that he was too stupid to tell her the truth, and it killed him. Before he could get too lost in his thoughts though, the smell of smoke wafted into his nostrils. The kitchen. Maka. Cooking. Fire. Without another thought, he ran into the kitchen and pulled the fire extinguisher from the wall, extinguishing the flames. When he finished putting out the fire, Soul turned to Maka who looked at him in apology and sorrow, with tears welling in her eyes. That face just made his heart melt, and he pulled her to him. Maka buried her face in his shirt and cried, feeling so embarrassed and vulnerable. Seeing her cry like this made Soul feel terrible, wanting to console her in anyway possible. And on impulse, he lifted up her head and smoothed the crease between her brows, before gently putting his lips on her own. Maka's eyes widened in shock, but she quickly closed them shut along with him, and before they both knew it they were both kissing each other.

It was tender, and sweet, but the kiss felt like it was quickly fleeting, as if it was a butterfly. But they wanted to capture the moment anyway, and it became more lustful. He slipped his tongue into her mouth, and softly groaned as she hummed back. Before it could become even more passionate though, he pulled away reluctantly. "Maka," he whispered, "I love you". Her eyes still glistening from her tears, peered into his. "I love you too" she smiled. And they both held each other, soaking up the other's presence, wondering if they should make the next move and what the future would hold.

Hi guys! It's Kath! Thank you so much for reading!

I'm thinking about making this more than a oneshot, and maybe adding a lemon (?)

Tell me what you think in the comments! I'd love to hear your feedback! This is my first Soul Eater fic so I tried my best!

Also tell me if you spot any grammatical errors!

Okay thanks again:)
