Hey everyone. This story was written for both the Gardening: Flower Meanings Task 8 and Fortnightly Challenges Thread's Build a Monster Workshop. The task for Gardening: Flower Meanings Task 8 was to write about someone viewed as innocent and pure. For Build a Monster Workshop the I wrote for give it life and the task was write about a parent and a child. I could think of no one more purer than a baby so I used Teddy Lupin. I actually enjoy writing young Teddy stories. So I hope you all enjoy I Love You More Than Life Itself.
She looked down upon the sleeping child in the bassinet next to their bed. Her son was the most perfect thing in her life right now. Not that she would ever tell her husband or anyone else how she felt. Life was being turned on it's head after all and he been since before she was born. But this was something that none of the outside stuff could touch.
The baby gurgled happily up at her lifting his arms to be held by the mother he had only just met.
She bent and picked him up. She couldn't believe how light he actually was. It felt like he weighed more when she was pregnant with him than he did now that she wasn't. She gently cradled him against her chest.
"Teddy," she whispered his name quietly as though to just whisper the name was to make the whole world alright again. "My sweet Teddy." She sighed as walked over to the rocking chair that was in the corner for his midnight feedings. Sitting down she began to rock back and forth. "I wish you didn't have to grow up in this like your father and I did. I wish we could give you the life you should have but some thing we can't really change. Can we?"
Teddy blinked up at me in confusion and then began to gurgle away happily as though answering my question.
"I think you're right," she whispered gently at her son. "But that doesn't mean it's fair to you. I wish you could have met your grandfather who you're named for. He'd have been happy to have a grandson."
Teddy gurgled back at her. She could swear that even though he was just born a few months ago he could see things that no adult could. He seemed years older to her than he was.
"How did you get so wise?" she cooed at him. "Were you just born that way?"
She could have sworn she saw a slight shrug as he yawned and snuggled closer to her. She smiled down at her sweet son as she rocked the baby back to sleep. Carrying him back to the bassinet she gently set him down placing a small kiss to his forehead.
"I love you more than life itself Teddy," she whispered. "I want you to remember that no matter what happens."
Turning to leave she saw her husband standing at the doorway watching the little interaction. He pulled her into the embrace he knew she needed more than anything right now. Life was unpredictable and no one knew where it would take them.
I hope you all enjoyed I Love You More Than Life Itself. I hope to write more about young Teddy he's very easy to write about.
