I looked up at the clock. It was 1:00 on Wednesday. It was summer and the Doctor had agreed to come by at 11:00 on Wednesdays for a whole day of adventure, but here it was, two hours later and he wasn't here.
I was slightly upset, but not too worried. If there was one thing I had learned in the seven months of traveling with this new Doctor, it was that he might be older and look older, but his timing was even worse than before.
Suddenly, my phone rang. I picked it up and smiled as I saw who it was.
"You're late," I teased the Doctor as I answered the phone.
"Yes. Sorry," the Doctor answered in his thick Scottish accent that I had grown to love. "Had a few things I had to do and lost track of time."
I could hear traffic in the background and frowned, wondering why he was in the middle of London.
"What did you have to do in London?" I asked curiously.
"You'll see, love," he said as I could hear him unlocking the door of the TARDIS. For some reason, this new Doctor had taken to calling me "love" a lot, like his past self had at Sweetville. It had bothered me at first, but now I couldn't say I minded. "You'll love it."
"You think so?" I asked, teasingly skeptical. I smirked slightly.
"Nope. I know so." I could hear him throwing levers and pressing buttons on the TARDIS console.
"Oh really? How 'bout you come over and we'll see if you're right."
I could almost see his smile as he replied.
"You're the boss, love."
I heard him throw the last lever before he hung up.
A second later, I heard the TARDIS start to materialize in my front room. I quickly ran into the room to watch it appear. It quickly finished materializing and sat there silently. Before I could step toward the TARDIS, the door opened. This new Doctor may look old, but he could be just as fast as his predecessor. The Doctor stepped out of the TARDIS with a giant bouquet of flowers. I frowned slightly in confusion.
"What's the occasion?"
A large smile graced his features.
"One year ago today, in a linear point of view because I was doing the math and it's actually been something like a year and a few months. I think it was a few months. I couldn't exactly recall how long we were stranded on the planet Barcelona-"
"Doctor," I said, cutting him off.
He looked at me, surprised.
"Right. Sorry, Clara," he said apologetically. "One year ago today, you phoned me about the internet."
I looked at him incredulously. He frowned slightly.
"That was only a year ago?"
"Give or take a few months," he supplied, nodding.
I fell back onto the sofa and stared off into space incredulously.
"One year," I mumbled, as the Doctor came to sit next to me. So much had happened in one year. Both of us had changed so much. We had been through so much together.
Suddenly, everything started to blur as my eyes welled up with tears.
"Shh. Clara," the Doctor said, pulling me into a hug. "What a year its been. One of the best years of all my lives." He pulled back and cupped my cheeks in his hands and wiped away the tears. He looked deep into my eyes, silently telling me that what he said next was of the utmost importance. "There's no need to cry."
I closed my eyes as he leaned forward and kissed me. It was slow and gentle and I kept my eyes closed for a few moments after he pulled away.
I smiled at him as I opened my eyes. He smiled back lovingly. Suddenly, he leapt up and extended his hand to help me up from the sofa. I reached up and took his hand. I laughed as he promptly dragged me into the TARDIS.
"Ready for a day of adventure, love? Jules Verne and the royal family are expecting us. I also made reservations to the best restaurant in the universe," he said enthusiastically as he quickly sent us hurtling into the Time Vortex.
