Rebirth
It was the same dream; Jane was in the arms of her handsome, Grecian like cousin, St John Rivers, returning his lusty embrace.
"Jane" he screamed for her, reaching for. But she disappeared with her cousin in the darkness and he was once again alone.
When he finally opened his eyes, he could make out the shadows of the drawing room of Ferndean, his heart pounding voraciously. His breathing relaxed and his heart beat returned to normal as Jane's lavender perfume surrounded him.
"I am here, Edward" he looked in the direction of her voice as she finished the letter, seeing the dull haze of her dress.
The letter was an invitation to her cousins, Mary and Diana who had both recently married to visit Thornfield with their husbands.
Finishing the letter, she sat down next to her husband, entangling her small fingers in his large ones. With their hands entwined, she guided his hands to her growing abdomen. Their child was to be born by May, representing a new life for them both.
As their child grew inside of Jane, so was Thornfield being rebuilt. The new Thornfield, would be full of light, joy and love, replacing the sorrows, darkness and secrets of the past. Jane and Edward's children would grow up never knowing the hardships of their parent's childhood.
As if he could read his parents mind, John Edward Eyre Rochester was the physician predicted. His father paced in the study of the newly completed Thornfield Hall with his friend, Eshton. Mrs. Fairfax knocked on the study door, announcing that the child had arrived.
Already tired from the journey through the birth canal, the future heir to Thornfield began to fall asleep, but not before his father saw that his son had inherited his blue eyes.
It was only a few years ago that Edward's life was shrouded in darkness and the ghosts of the past seemed to follow him wherever he went. Now his life was the opposite, with Jane, John and Thornfield rebuilt, his rebirth was complete.
