Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. If I did, I'd have written the first book aged about 3!

Text in italics comes from pages 78-79 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, UK hardback version.

Sighing, Ginny dropped into her favourite armchair in the corner of the Gryffindor common room. She had just returned from the Ravenclaw/Gryffindor quidditch game, which they had lost 370-220. They hadn't won a single match since Harry… since last year.

It was in the moments like this that Ginny felt Harry's absence most, as well as the absences of her youngest brother, Ron, and her best friend Hermione. The three were off God knows where on a secret quest. No one knew what they were doing, but Ginny strongly suspected it was to do with polishing off Voldemort.

'I think Mum thinks that if she can stop the three of you getting together and planning, she'll be able to delay you leaving,' Ginny told Harry in an undertone, as they laid the table for dinner on the third night of his stay.

'And then what does she think's going to happen?' Harry muttered. 'Someone else might kill off Voldemort while she's holding us here making vol-au-vents?'

He had spoken without thinking, and saw Ginny's face whiten.

'So it's true?' she said. 'That's what you're trying to do?'

'I-not-I was joking,' said Harry evasively.

They stared at each other, and there was something more than shock in Ginny's expression.

Harry had never been a good actor, and so covered up his mistake with little success. At least she had some idea about their secret mission, though.

What Harry, Ron and Hermione did on this escapade did not bother Ginny, so long as they returned safely, and hopefully killed Voldemort on their way. More muggleborns went missing every day, and some of the muggleborn and blood-traitor families were disappearing into hiding.

Ginny prayed with all she had that they would soon be home, and this terrible battle would soon be over, and then she could rest, properly, in Harry's strong, protective arms.

A/N: This is my first ever fanfiction, I hope it's OK. It would be lovely if you reviewed, so please do, I honestly want to know what you think! Thank you!
