Rose knew that the human Doctor wasn't really the same as the man she had fallen in love with, but they were so much alike it scared her sometimes.
Like now. She was lying in her bed in the dark. It was past midnight, and she was woken up just a minute ago from the cry next door.
It was the Doctor and his nightmares. He had always been plagued by them, but this new Doctor was worse. Every night since she had brought him home, he had woken up like this. She didn't know what they were about. Maybe Gallifrey, like before, or maybe his more recent experiences.
She wanted to badly to comfort him, to run into his room and wrap her arms around him, but knew that wasn't what he wanted. He had always been a very private person. He needed to be alone for awhile. He needed time to face his demons, free from the watch of anyone else. He needed to be free to face what he considered his punishment.
So she lay there, heart breaking anew every night, waiting for the day he would be ready let her help.
