Violet's Interlude
Disclaimer – A Serious of Unfortunate Events is copyrighted to Lemony Snicket, and I am but a humble amateur authoress, writing fiction to the terrible tales of the Baudelaires.
Sunny sighed, as much as a toddler could sigh, as she stared at the sea, taking a small of her cordial. It still made her feel dizzy but upon Ishmael's suggestion of not "rocking the boat", she supposed that she should just cope with drinking the substance.
Violet was a few feet away from Sunny, within striking distance if one had a rather long poison whip. Violet too was lost in her thoughts while helping with the laundry. V.F.D felt inexistent in the lifestyle of the calm and peaceful castaways. The customs were strict and though she didn't wish to rock the boat, Violet wished she could tie her hair up and invent something to get the laundry done quicker.
Regrettably, there were some days when Violet wished she could end it all. The phrase "end it all" normally mean to put a stop to things but in the text the eldest Baudelaire was using it in, the dictionary definition of it meant suicide.
Yes, Violet had thought of somehow killing herself and ending the struggle for survival, escaping the mystery and woes of V.F.D. One night she had even hatched a plan, back at the Hotel Denouement, but when reality smacked her in the face, a phrase which means "realizing her fantasizes would not work as smoothly as she thought in real life", she quickly discarded the thought.
It would've put an end to her constantly restless mind of unraveling the web of mystery that is V.F.D, she couldn't leave Klaus and Sunny alone to fend for themselves and escape Olaf's treachery, as well as finding Kit Snicket and the volunteers.
A sigh escaped Violet's lips as she laid another robe, looking particularly unisex, upon a rock next to a robe that was strikingly similar to it. Ishmael's prediction of a storm in a few days seemed improbable but then again, most of the things she had seen and been through had been improbably as well but they certainly happened.
So that was why Violet allowed her suicidal thoughts to follow through her head, but she knew she would never carry them out. For now, settling on the island among the castaways was her main concern. She would not end her life, she would not leave her siblings in the cruel world of reality, and she would not give up to Count Olaf.
For with her dead, Violet would bring the Count another step closer to the Baudelaire's fortune and another step closer to wiping out whatever was left of V.F.D – everything that it was.
That was why Violet was silent and laid out more robes to be dried in the sun, content with not rocking the boat and being out of Olaf's clutches – for now.
A/N: So, yes. I am currently reading 'The End', at long last. I recommend not reading this 'till you have reached at least Chapter 5, where I was hit with inspiration. When Klaus said "…seemed a world away…" after the storm, the gears in my head started turning. I had some reference to page 99…
