-1Saving Simone

Two shots rung through the air. But they did not hit Peter, as Isaac had intended. Now Simone, the love of both men's lives, was standing in the doorway with two bullets in her chest. Isaac dropped the gun and watched horrified as she began to fall back. Before she could fall, Peter appeared beside her. Peter held her in his arms, as she tried to gasp for breath. The two men looked at each other. They didn't have to say a word. For all the fighting, and bad blood between them, neither of them wanted this.

Peter clutched Simone, helpless to save her. He had dozens of powers, but none of them were of any use. He couldn't heal her like he could heal himself. Flying wouldn't help, nor would painting a picture, or being invisible, or stopping time. Then his face filled with hope.

"Don't be afraid," He told her, placing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I'm going to save you."

Then he concentrated very hard, bringing time to a stop, and then slowly moving it backwards. Isaac held the gun, Simone raised up and the bullets emerged from her chest. They slowly retraced their path back towards the gun.

Then Peter summoned all of his courage and stood in the bullets path. "I love you, Simone." He concentrated once more.

The bullets hit him square in the chest. Behind him Simone screamed. Isaac dropped the gun, surprised that he had actually hit his attacker. Both of them ran over to Peter as he fell to his knees.

Simone cradled him in her arms and helped him lean back. "Peter. Oh my God." She looked at Isaac with raw fury. "How could you!"

"It's ok," Peter gasped. "Don't be afraid."

"No, Peter. Don't die on me. I'm going to call an ambulance. You're going to be ok."

She set him down gently and pulled out her cell phone. Before she could begin dialing, Peter was gone. Not dead, just gone. "Peter? Peter!"

Isaac couldn't say a word. All he could think of was the image of Simone screaming right behind Peter. If he hadn't been standing right there, she would be the one dying. Peter sacrificed himself to save her. Then he felt something brush him hand. He turned his palm up to look at it, and saw two blood stained bullets drop into his hand.

Peter left the studio under the cloak of invisibility, and flew through the air. He couldn't stay in New York. He was a danger to everyone around him. His family, his friends, Simone, the entire city. He had to leave to save them all. He couldn't bare to think of how close he'd come to losing her. Her life fading from her as he held her. They were all better off without him.
