This is my first fan fiction ever, so I hope you guys like it. I'm like the biggest fan of saiyuki ever...well maybe not the biggest....I still don't have a Hakkai plushie yet. *tears of pain and sorrow* Oh well. Um, Cursed spatula inspired this one with her story "Spark", a Yu Yu Hakuisho fan fic. Well enjoy!
One more note: No matter how much I would love to own Hakkai and the group they still belong to Kazuya Minekura.

Hakkai looked out into the raising sun, watching its first rays illuminate the humble town that stood before him. Many good things had happened to him here. This place was the beginning of his new life as Cho Hakkai. It was his refuge, a place where he could leave his murderous past behind him.
The wind rustled through his silky brazen hair, bringing the crisp smells of autumn. He stood there with his eyes closed, letting his senses go, reaching out for anything nature offered. Today was going to be a good day; he could feel it in his soul.
Five minutes passed as he stood there, watching the sun arise. It's entrancing light never seemed to bore him, even though Hakkai watched them every morning. No two sunrises where alike, nor were their colors ever the same. He always thought they reminded him of people; the reddish color representing their evil, more daring side. The yellows were the happier memories carried within, while the blue represented times of sadness that they had encountered. Not one sunrise had the same pattern of colors, just like humanity.
The city began to awaken. Men walked the streets, scurrying to get to their jobs on time. Hakkai decided to leave his watchful post and reentered the home he shared with his dear friend, Gojyo.
Hakkai looked over to see the red-haired water sprite laying sloppily in bed; Hakuryu curled up at his feet. Red locks covered the half-breed's face, scattered about. That hair was Hakkai's admonishment, reminding him of all the blood he had spilled for the one he loved.
"Kanan..." Hakkai whispered, the words tumbling from his mouth unnoticed.
He had set out on a journey to retrieve her after learning the great demon, Hugan Maoh, had captured her. It ended in failure, only after he killed a thousand demons; transforming himself into the very thing he used to despise.
He remembered being reunited with her for one final time, believing all their pain and suffering had finally come to an end. Overjoyed, he rushed to the bars of her prison offering his protection, only to help aid in her demise.
Kanan had stolen his dagger from its sheath and bid her final farewell to her beloved. She had been a victim of Maoh's and could not bear to live a life that meant carrying his child. Hakkai pleaded with her; begged her not to do it, but in the end he couldn't save her.
He pushed these thoughts aside, not wanting to bring the stinging pain back to his heart. From that day on he had been cautious not to get involved with any one romantically, but that was getting hard for him to stand by.
Maybe it was because they had so much in common; a love Hakkai couldn't save, and a love that Gojyo couldn't win. Maybe it was because they had been living together, allowing Hakkai to learn every attribute of Gojyo's. Whatever the case, he knew his feelings were more than just friendly towards the kappa. Somewhere along the lines they had changed. Funny how a man could love a woman one day and then switch genders without even realizing.
Hakkai made his way over to his cup of tea he had made earlier, grabbed his favorite book, and sat in the corner of the room near the bed. It would be another hour or so before Gojyo awoke.
