It was three in the morning when my phone went off.
"do you have any idea how early it is here" I practically shouted into the speaker.
"i have a job for you, go to Henrietta Virginia and find me the greywaren" he answered calmly.
"that's Grey's job, remember. Your not usually on to send two people on the same job Greenmantle" I said.
"Grey's not working for me anymore, I need you to find him and get my property back" my boss told me, "and clear up any loose ends"
"I'll leave in the morning, but I'll need vacation time after this"i hung up before he could try to answer.
I bought a burner phone before I left New York. I called Grey before I left the state.
"so the greywaren's a person" I asked as soon as he answered.
"how did you figure it out" he asked in his usual unemotional tone.
'you've always been sentimental when it came to people. As long as they didn't get in the way of your work" I said with a smile, "Greenmantle never like hearing that his things are people, too much work for him"
"don't you dare touch the kid"Grey said, his voice was firm and serious.
"I'm just here to clean up loose ends" I hung up and quickened my pace as I threw the phone out the passenger window.
I made it to Henrietta by sundown. From the size of the place I thought it would be hard to find him, but I was wrong. The first set of lights I stopped at was right beside a park. I could see Grey proposing to a woman from my car.
I rolled down the window a grabbed the rifle from the back seat. I set the barrel against the bottom of the passenger window and fired. The bullet went straight to his brain and killed him instantly. The woman dropped beside him screaming.
The light turned green and I left town. I called Greenmantle but only got voice mail.
"Grey's dead but he took the greywaren with him. There was nothing I could do"
