...
Dib was sitting at his desk, his head turned to the right. Zim wasn't at his desk, and it was bothering him.
'I bet he's already got a plan to-'
"Excuse the lateness of Zim." Zim opened the door, and entered the classroom. "I was..." He paused.
Dib noticed the tone in his voice. Anger? No... Sadness... What could have possibly made that stuck up, ignorant alien sad?
"Well, Zim, if you don't have an excuse, I suggest you sit down and be quite, because I don't want to hear another sound from any of you worthless children until the lesson is over!" Miss Bitters hissed in a worse tone of voice than usual, causing everyone to shut up.
"In order for your pathetic (Zim just winced!) minds to receive a better education, I have been informed that we are required to learn vocabulary words."
Dib groaned, which put all eyes on him.
"Since you seem so eager to start, Dib, how about you read off the vocabulary list for this week?" Miss Bitters asked. (More like commanded.)
Dib got up from his chair, and walked over. He took the 'Vocabulary List' that was on a piece of napkin paper off of Miss Bitters desk.
"A napkin?"
Miss Bitter just hissed.
"Rain... Dark... Hole... Night... Sadness..." Dib began to read.
"Misery... Pain... Death... Torture... Defect."
He saw Zim wince at defect, but just ignored him.
What was up with this vocabulary list anyways?
"So, does anyone know what one of these words mean?" Miss Bitters asked doubtfully as Dib set the list on her desk and walked back to his seat.
One hand instantly popped up, and Dib turned his head to see it was Zim's hand.
Confusion and surprise took over Dib's mind.
Miss Bitters must have been surprised too, because she raised an eyebrow at him. "...Zim? What word do you know?"
"Defect."
That was his answer. The whole world went silent when he said that, and Dib almost swore the atmosphere just dropped.
"...Alright then. Go on."
"Defect has... many definitions. One would be a failure of computer software to meet requirements.
A better example could be a medical condition present at birth."
He paused, and glanced at Dib. Dib instantly noticed the sad expression on his face.
"Defect is... a shortcoming. A fault... An imperfection.
Let's say someone was defective. No one would want them. They would be imperfect."
Dib was surprised that Miss Bitters hadn't said anything by now. What had gotten into him?
"Other words to describe Defect could be...
Deformity.
Error.
Flaw...
A mistake." He finally finished.
The whole classroom was silent, and finally Miss Bitters spoke up before he could continue.
"Enough. That was... good, Zim, but I only asked for a definition."'
Zim looked at her.
"You want a definition?
The definition for defect is Zim."
And he left.
He ran out of the room, and that was it.
"Zim..."
