Durin's Boys

Dis sat infront of the hearth staring at the flames. She had lost her boys and her brother all of who had been buried in Erebor. Fili and Kili had been the light in her life and had had many friends in the blue mountains the continoulsy pranked each other , wreselted with other dawrflings or some other kind of trouble. The was a gentle cough behind and she saw Balin "Lady Dis there is something that you must see it is in the market square I believe that the stone masons worked on it for three days." Dis looked up at the elderly dwarf "I will come then Balin." Getting up Dis wrapped a warm shawl round her shoulders and pulled on a pair of boots that once belonged to her brother. The two dwarves made their way through the streets where leaves were scattered and small children playing with wooden swords or helping their parents with the market stalls.

"Lady Dis close your eyes please?" asked Balin. Dis raised an eyebrow "Why?" Balin chuckled "You'll see." Knowing she could get nothing else out of the Elderly dwarf she shut her eyes and Balin guided her into the square and told her to open her eyes. There stood a life sized statue of her two boys Fili had his dual blades out and was in a slight defensive position and Kili was drawing his bow. The statute remind Dis of when they returned from their first hunt. They had been thirty five and forty trailing mud and dirt everywhere but with a lovely looking boar for supper.

Flashback

"Do you think mothers going to be pleased?" asked Kili to his older brother as he shifted the boar's weight even between the two of them it was still pretty heavy "I hope so Kili the shot was amazing" Fili answered. Kili laughed the "throw you made the knife saved my dwarven behind." Fili laughed along as they only remembered that Kili's first shot had angered the boar that had proved a mistake. The boar charge and Kili stumbled backwards reloading his bow for a second shot THUNK a knife hit the boar in the shoulder blade and turned to face it's new attacker Fili climbing up the nearest tree Kili took careful and loosed the arrow striking the boar in the neck. The beast snorted and fell Fili drew his sword and drove it through the Boars throat putting it out of it's misery. Kili jumped down from the tree and came over "Now the question is how are we going to get it home?" asked Kili.

The two brothers stopped infront of their house and Fili gave the door a kicked and yelled "Mum can you open the door please." The door opened and a flustered looking Dis looked at her two sons taking in their muddy appearance"Kili Fili bath now and you can put that boar in the kitchen for later." The boys grinned and dragged their hunt indoors dumping it on the table for later. Then headed to the washroom.

...

Dis smiled at her two children as they came into the kitchen clean and in fresh clothes and said "Well Fili, Kili I must say I expected you home with something smaller that a boar more like a deer or a couple of rabbits"

End of flashback

Dis shook herself out of the memory and smiled up at the statue knowing her boys they wouldn't want her to be miserable over their death Balin looked at her and said "Dis are you alright it's not too much" Dis shook her head "No it fine" Looking at the pedestal on which the statue stood she read In memory and honnor of Fili and Kili princes of Erebor and Durin's boys.
