Hi everyone, this is a fanfic about the four, "Stand By Me" boys deaths. It is also about a girl who was their best friend. I know that this sort of thing has been done before and I don't really care.
Enjoy!
They were gone. They were all gone. The boys I gave my secrets and childhood to. The ones I loved the most, they were all gone.
Vern had gone first. He died in a house fire after a party. Vern was pudgy, funny, and dumb when we were twelve and he never changed. We knew he would never amount to much but we all secretly thought that Teddy would die first. Poor Vern probably was asleep when the fire started.
Teddy went next so we weren't far off in guessing. He didn't die in the army like we expected. He died in a car crash due to his carelessness. Teddy was found in the car with his coke bottle glasses cracked and his hearing aid tossed 20 yards away from the car. No one survived that crash.
Not long after Teddy's death Chris was buying dinner in a Chicken Delight. In front of him two men got in a fight over who was in line first. Chris stepped in to try to make peace like he always had and before he knew it one of the men pulled a knife and slashed strait through his throat. He died instantly.
Gordie was last and died of cancer. He knew he was dying. Gordie hadn't married yet and since I was the last one left I stayed by him all the time. We reminisced old memories and in his final moments he asked if I had any requests. I told him to tell Chris, Teddy, and Vern hi.
The day after his funeral I found a note in my purse.
Jess,
I know I will die soon. I can feel it.
Please go to where the tree house is.
In the ground there is a box right under those branches we used to slide down.
Please open it.
I'll miss you and I'll say hi to the guys.
Love,
Gordie LaChance
When I arrived at the tree house I was horrified. It was nothing but a stump.
However I remembered all to well where the branches we swung on were. I dug deep down until I reached a cardboard box.
I sat on the stump and opened in. There were four sections labeled Teddy, Vern, Gordie, and Chris. I opened Vern's section first. Lying there was a pack of cherry flavored pez and a two-inch tall jar filled with pennies. I smiled knowing that Vern had thoughtfully given me his favorite food and some pennies which knowing him took him years to find.
Then teddy's section was opened. Sitting in the box was an extra pair of teddy's coke bottle glasses and his dog tag.
Gordie's section contained his Yankee cap and a book. There was a sticky note on the book that said, Please get this published in honor of us.
I read it later and it was titled The Body. Then there was a movie made of it.
And I opened Chris's box to find a pack of Winston cigarettes and his navy blue converse. Those shoes were the same shoes he wore on the ray Brower trip. I knew because I wrote with permanent marker on them, friends forever, and it was still there though slightly faded.
I still have that box now and will leave something of mine with it and have them burry it with me.
