"Mom, I think I'll go and get the berries myself today."

The mother (a fine warrior that couldn't be measured unless a person could see her actions for themselves; head of ambrosia red tamed for the first time in a long time after imprisonment with a little leather tie and figure still as beautiful as her daughter remembered) of the teenage girl that had in a way almost as great as the Green Lantern saved her tribe, looked up from brushing her son's growing head of hair and blinked. Often, it took a while to get Mk'Abee to participate in the gathering of food that didn't involve hunting down a large animal of the lizard persuasion, so the fact that the girl was offering up to do the chore was…strange.

"Are you sure, Mk'Abee?" her voice was warm as the sun on beach sands and comforting after being absent for so long, "There are plenty of others around to provide for that duty."

The teenage girl smiled lightly (so like Mt'Athias when he had first started courting his wife, but abridged in a way that spoke volumes of how much she'd matured since most of her clan had been held captive and she'd had to take charge in their place; no longer a girl, but a maturing young woman) but continued on the way into the forest surrounding the camp that the Hammer Tribe wasn't quite ready to give up to go back to the fortress just yet, "It is no trouble. I'm getting bored with most everything today already done. I will be back again."

J'Dah looked over from his seat facing away from his mother while her strong fingers tried to measure how long it had gotten (she would cut it again soon, probably, but she was holding off for reasons only a mother could fathom, wanting to see what it could look like before it became what it would be) and called out to his sister, "Can I come along sister? I really don't want mother to cut my hair—please save me!"

The queen to the Hammer Tribe pressed J'Dah back into his seat as he tried to flail his arms and Mk'Abee chuckled quietly as she picked up her berry basket (her father had made it for them years ago, but it had laid barren and empty until most recently—often since her tribe's freedom, the basket had recently been used to house the uniform Green Lantern Hal Jordan had left as his "Chanukah" present to her brother. It was always dry and clean until J'Dah found the next tree she hung the basket in and then ran off to do good deeds that left him filthy at the end of the day—saving baby Thornbucks from poisonous Snaredrakes especially) and trotted out of their tent.

Perhaps she would come to save J'Dah later from the terror of their mother's hair scissors. But not until she got some red berries that would be perfect for the pie she was going to bake as a surprise for her parents.
