It's the day of the stupid zip line stunt they pull every year, so our favourite common room is practically empty. It's just me and my laptop. I'm studying the statistics from stage one, and making sure they add up. There is nothing more important than ensuring everyone is on an even playing field for the start of stage two; this is where it usually gets interesting, and the claws come out.

I hear doors bang, and loud, exuberant voices, so I shut down the screen and close the laptop. I lean back on the chair, hands behind my head, and wait for them to arrive.

"Absolutely awesome," Zeke says, emphasizing each syllable. He makes a beeline for a chair and throws himself across it, as though the weight of how amazing the experience was has knocked him out.

"I agree," says Shauna, as she marches through the door and throws her bag in the corner. "We terrified the livings out of them. They barely knew what hit them."

"But it's the suspense that really kills," says Gabe as he joins Shauna on the couch opposite me. "Their faces as they were lining up… priceless."

Lynn also comes in, looking slightly bored; I know her better than that, though; the sparkle in her eyes tell me she had a pretty good time.

"How was Uriah," I ask Zeke, half a smile on my face. "Was the wind knocked out of his sails?"

"Like anything," Shauna says, laughing, "He screamed the whole way down."

"As if you didn't on your first run," retorts Zeke. "But yes, he did make some unusual noises."

"Tell you who didn't scream, though," says Shauna, "Is that Stiff girl you were telling us about. Tris. She's got serious guts."

"Yeah, I don't know how she could have been raised Abnegation," says Zeke, stretching out his legs and arms in a starfish. "She just did the whole thing in silence and asked to go on it again. Like you probably would, Four. But more feminine."

Tris? Tris went on it?

"How come she went?" I say, trying my best to act casual. "I thought it was just siblings."

"Uriah brought her," said Zeke. "Felt sorry for her after the whole knife-in-eye fiasco last night. Nice of him, I guess."

"Yeah, if you like being chucked off a 100-storey building," said Lynn, sarcastically. "Bet she thinks she's something special now."

"Oh, shut it off, Lynn," Zeke said, "You were impressed too, I saw your face."

Wow. She really did the zip line. I guess I shouldn't be so surprised, after the whole Ferris wheel incident. But even I can't go near the thing, and she's only 16… Wow.

"Why are you so interested in her anyway, Four," Zeke says, waggling his eyebrows. "Someone caught your fancy?"

"Bet he would have come if he'd known she was there," butts in Shauna.

"Yeah, jumping off a building strapped to a piece of cloth? Not enough to get him a thrill," Zeke says, smirking, "A girl, however…" Everyone starts to laugh.

I feel my ears starting to heat up, so I do my best to make my face indifferent, and stand up from the couch. "I have no idea what you mean by any of this," I say, perhaps a little too coldly. "But I'm going to bed."

I turn and walk out of the room, but not before Zeke wolf-whistles and everyone laughs again. While I know they're all joking, I can't help but wonder what their actual reactions would be if they knew that I was, in fact, a little interested in her.

I wonder what her reaction would be.
