SPOILERS FOR MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE ISSUES 14-16

This poem is based on the amazing IDW Transformers ongoing series, More than Meets the Eye by James Roberts, specifically the heartrending storyline of "Remembrance Day," "Under Cold Blue Stars," and "The Gloaming."

REMEMBRANCE DAY

Forgetting the pain of losing you
Only takes closing a door
Remembering what I did to you
Grants me chains forevermore
Escape! Pretend this isn't true!
Tell myself that I'm not yours

This was all my fault, and I never apologized
How can I go on knowing that I only fed you lies?
Erase it all forever, as if you never were…

Peel away the memories
And wipe you from my past
I can't be hurt by dreams
Nightmares will not last

Forgetting the pain of losing you
Or even that you ever were
Remembering not a day of you
Give it up, and let it blur
Escape from how I've failed you
There'll be no remorse, I'm sure

The short route is so sweet, but I can't bear to let you go
How can I let this happen? How can I just not know?
Erasing you forever, as if you never were…

Leave behind the memories
Omit you from my life
Vanished are the sorrows
Ended is the strife

Never again will I see you
Empty, then, my mind
Vindicate myself of all the guilt of failing you
Each night, I see you die again; can't I leave this behind?
Rewind the clock to the day before I met you

Forgetting painful memories
Enticing is the thought!
Except I can't go through with this
Love can't be forgot!

As I look back on all our days
Gloaming turns to dawn
And I know that I can't betray
If I forget, you're really gone
Near to me, you'll always be; your memory is here to stay

RIP Rewind
