So this is my first Fanfiction, so be as truthful as you like when you review.
In the Inkworld a boy was born, one with eyes like pools of chocolate and a smile as bright as the sun. He grew up believing that every leaf hid a fairy, that fire had as much of a voice as any man and that life was best lived on the road. His father, tall with skin as dark as the boy's eyes possessed a voice so rich that it could convince even fire to obey him. After the old Black prince disappeared, he was the logical choice for successor and leader of the Motley Folk. Though he dressed all in black, for he was the Black prince, his suit sparkled and gleamed with the colors of flame thanks to the brightly colored thread woven into the fabric by the boy's mother. She was like the threads, his mother. She sparkled with laughter and gleamed as she danced among the citizens of both Lombrica and Argenta. It was not gold or riches that made her stand out, but the life that filled her and, if she was not careful, escape her. The boy loved to hear her read aloud and sometimes, if he was lucky, some of her life would drag a token from the pages to land in his eager hands. He loved when it happened, for she would let him keep the pretty feathers or metal coins, as long as it wasn't alive. She returned it back to the storybook world if it was. Tonight, she had read a crystal from the pages and he fell asleep clutching the crystal that glinted and sparkled with light as pure as that of a fire.
Meggie brushed back the hair from her little boy's forehead, smiling down at the little sleeping figure. Standing up, she suddenly felt Farid's arms wrap around her from behind and she smiled.
"If you're too loud, he going to wake up", she whispered as she leaned into Farid's chest.
"Then let's go outside", was his low reply.
Meggie followed her husband outside and they sat on the creaking, weathered steps of their caravan wagon. The black night around them was broken only by the soft crackling of the fire and the cries of the night beasts.
Farid glanced over at Meggie. The fire illuminated her face, smoothing it clear of worry and care. The years following the Adderhead's death and Cosimo's second one hadn't been easy, but they had survived.
Strains of music drifted past the silent trees as it escaped into the mild, summer air from a distant campsite. Around the campfire black shadows danced insubstantial as wraiths.
Meggie suddenly stood up and grabbed Farid's hands.
"Let's dance, my Prince."
Her voice, full of love pulled him to his tired feet. Obligingly, he twirled her around, her long hair and skirt swirling with the slightest movement of her body. Their bare feet moved through the wet grass as they gazed into each other's eyes, lost in their own world. The firelight danced across their bodies as the twirled and swayed to the distant music. Unnoticed by either of them, their little child watched his parents from the wagon. He had suddenly woken, but did not disturb his parents and was lulled into sleep again by the soft music and dancing fire.
