Into The Darkness

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. Blarbitty blah.

A/N: This was supposed to be the prologue of a multi-chaptered fic but I got tired of it.

Darkness had been wrapped around Hyuuga Hinata's heart for years now. It had threatened many a times to enter and corrupt its innocence. It was heavy and tasted bittersweet, almost as if it was a drug that induces sleep upon its victim. But no matter how enticing it was, she tried her best to keep it away. She knew that beyond this heavy burden, nothing good would be waiting for her. There were only demons who wanted to consume her soul.

It was entirely different at first; it was a thin cloak made from the lightest material. Her mother had given life to Hanabi and lost her own in the process. The cloak of darkness was full of hatred towards her younger sister but kind-hearted and gentle Hinata let her love shine through and chased the darkness away. For the sake of her deceased mother, she helped her father take care of baby Hanabi.

The darkness came back again when she was eight years old. Hanabi had grown into a more capable Hyuuga than she was. Hiashi abandoned his weak elder daughter's training and gave the burden to Yuhi Kurenai. He focused instead his attention towards the younger Hyuuga, much to Hinata's chagrin. The darkness, which was no longer a light cloak, was packed with fury and envy. But she was determined to prove her father wrong and with determination, warded it away.

It had stayed away from her as her heart was illuminated by a light so pure and warm. Uzumaki Naruto's smile, his voice, his optimism, his very being had driven the demons away. He was always ready to brighten the world – and her world – with his smile. She then decided to be like him and day by day, she grew fond of him until her feelings grew into love. He saved her.

She had friends too, in the form of her teammates, who had accepted her despite her being weak. They never blamed her for every failed mission although she knew that it was her fault.

Through friendship and love, she was free at last from the menacing darkness. She knew that it would never come back for there was hope, there was warmth, and there was inspiration!

That's what she thought.

Now, she was getting tired of driving the darkness away. Her defences were weakened and the abominable darkness was heavier and more destructive than ever. Her demons came back, cackling as they went, but now – now that the one she loved avoided her like the plague ever since she had confessed her love for him during Pain's invasion, now that her teammates died due to the war, now that Hanabi was proclaimed as the heiress of the Hyuuga Clan, now that she was branded with the Caged Bird Seal – she let them in with a big sigh of relief. She had had enough of fighting, of going against Fate. She was glad to finally rest and let her heart drift where it was meant to be.

And ever so slowly, Hyuuga Hinata succumbed into the darkness.

Temper: This is better, tono,

Demon: But it still sucks.

Me: [sighs] I know.

Temper: How could you, Demon? You're like the leading actor in here. Weren't you the one who seduced Hinata-san to give up?

Demon: Hey!

Me: [sighs] Review?

Owari.
