Rory's POV
It was a day like any other. I was sitting in Luke's Diner, half asleep, waiting for Dean. I checked my watch. Five past seven. I was going to have to leave soon. My beeper suddenly went off….
End Rory POV
Rory Gilmore looked down at her beeper. 'Meet at Bench'. It was from Dean. Shoving the rest of her burger into her mouth, she ran out the door, and into her fellow Stars Hollow resident, and town odd-jobber Kirk.
"Sorry!" Rory yelled as she flew down the street, towards the bench she and Dean always sat at.
"Yeah, just like I'm not here. No one sees me, Luke," Kirk said sadly.
Rory, face flushed, collapsed on the bench next to Dean.
"Hey." Rory kissed him. He felt oddly stiff, and Rory looked at him. "Everything okay?
"I think we should see other people," Dean said, his face stone-like, not even looking at Rory, more like looking through her.
"What?" Rory's voice broke, not unlike her heart.
"Other people Rory! It's a simple concept. You go to that perfect advanced piece of shit school; don't you know everything?" Dean yelled, drawing attention of nearby townies.
"So this is about Chilton?" Rory asked, confused.
"No, this is about your whole attitude. About your Holier-Than-Thou demeanor," Dean said, getting up and turning his back on Rory.
"Dean, wait!"
"No. Go be with some smart, future doctor. I'll do what I do best. Be mediocre."
