Author's note:

Oh, baby, I'm back. And better than ever! Ha-ha, just kidding. I am back though. So, this is my first story since… a while… and, uh, just go easy on me, okay (read & review, please)? Look! I even used real information on the highways, car accidents, hospitals & everything! YAY! By, the way, to know what song is playing on Nick's cell phone, you'll have to wait until later… it's announced (Greg is calling).

Prologue: Stay Awake

The car is going fast and his cell phone buzzes in tune to a song he doesn't quite now, or understand from the horrid audio. It's just the end of his shift and he is ready to crash. He takes in a deep breath, anticipating who the caller is, and he shifts in his seat, glancing between the illuminated screen of his phone sitting in the cup holder between the leather seats and the white dashes of paint on the road. His leg begins to bounce up and down on top of the gas pedal and he feels uncomfortable as he just waits for the music to stop.

A loud beep bursts from the small speaker of the cell phone and the screen slowly dims, reflecting the city's lights off its now reflective black screen. He glances halfway down to his phone, but he decides to keep his eyes on the road.

The music begins to play again and he jumps back in his seat, his eyes closed for a quick second. He opens his eyes and suddenly a car zooms out from exit 76A off of highway 515 behind him and flips his fender up onto the hood of the oncoming car. He screams and the music from his phone cuts as the car topples over, falling onto the grounded ceiling of the car. The window shatters as a tire squeals its way into it, the hubcap of the car that hit him sending sparks into his face as glass slashes his jaw, eyes, chin and cheeks violently. He tries to cover himself but he can't – he's restrained by the tremendous force pushing down on him from his seatbelt and the driver's airbag. His head is thrust forward in a violent whiplash that wipes him out as his seatbelt tears and he's then thrust down onto the felted ceiling.

H-hello? Is… is anybody there? I – I need an ambulance on highway 15… just off exit 76A. Hurry… I - I don't know what happened… I think he's dead… I think I killed a man…Oh my God- Melissa? Melissa… oh, baby, snap out of it! Baby, please wake up… Wake up…
