(A/N: This was inspired by "All at Once" by The Fray. This story gets kind of bumpy after Jacob says "Leah," because that's when I was interrupted, but I think it's still pretty good. Enjoy!)

Smashed

Jacob has given this a lot of thought.

He is going to leave his imprint for Leah.

He is going to tell Leah how much she really means to him.

He doesn't say goodbye to Nessie, just leaves, with no explanations or promises of returning.

Jacob walks to the Clearwater house, knocks on the door, and waits.

He waits for what feels like hours, days, years.

The words he's rehearsed so many times won't leave his head.

Leah, I left Nessie so I could be with you. Leah, I'm in love with you.

When Leah finally opens the door, only one word escapes from his mouth. "Hi."

"Hey, Jake," Leah says. "What are you doing here?"

"Leah." Jacob's voice feels caught in his throat. "I have something to tell you."

"I have something to tell you, also," Leah replies.

"You can go first," Jacob insists. He wants no distractions when he tells Leah about his love for her.

"Jacob, you convinced me that I should try moving on and forgetting about Sam. I've been working on doing that."

"And?"

"And…I thought you should know that I'm in love with Embry. We've been together for a little while now."

Jacob can see a bit of a smile form at her mouth, but he feels anything but happy.

"You're…in love with Embry."

"Yeah. Do you have a problem with that?"

"No. No problem at all. I'm happy for you and Embry."

"What did you want to tell me?" Leah asks.

"Nothing…it was nothing."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure."

Jacob doesn't wait for Leah to say anything else, just walks away from the Clearwater house and phases without thinking about it.

He broke the imprint for someone he loves.

But Leah doesn't love him back.

(A/N: Not really sure how much I like the ending. I wish I had been able to think of a stronger sentence to end it with. I considered adding to this, but I realized that it would be mostly Jacob angst and Leah/Embry fluff, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I don't feel like it would add much to this. Let me know if you see any typos, and reviews are love!)
