It was over. The final battler had been waged and Voldemort was gone… gone forever. In his semi-conscious state, Harry rejoiced. Then, as the world came into focus, he began to worry. The battle might be over, but the war raged on. The Death Eaters were furious that their master had been vanquished. Harry woke up fully and sat bolt upright. Lupin was sitting by his bedside.
"Harry! I'm so glad-"
"Death Eaters! I have to get up; I have to go fight! I can't let them... can't let them destroy the peace I nearly died for!"
"Harry! Don't worry! The remaining Death Eaters are not your concern. I am proud that you want to continue to fight and protect our world, but leave it to the Order and the aurors. You've done more than your fair share." With this, Lupin rose and, after resting a comforting hand on Harry's shoulder, left the room. Harry sunk back onto his pillow in exhaustion. The Final Battle had taken every last bit of his strength, physically, mentally, and magically.
It was only now that Harry began to notice his surroundings. Based on the dreary décor, he knew he was in Grimmauld Place, although he was clueless as to what room he was in. The door slowly swung open and Ginny's head poked through the opening.
"Harry? Lupin said you were awake so I thought…" she trailed off, unsure what to say.
"Ginny." It was all he could manage. The sight of her standing there, unharmed, filled him with more joy than he had ever known. He was only just beginning to realize the implications of Voldemort's defeat. He could finally live a normal life without the fear that his mere existence put those he loved most in extreme danger.
Ginny ran to him and encompassed him in a hug. "Don't ever do that to me again!" she said through her tears. "I don't think I could stand it if you left me alone again!"
"Ginny." He said again, his face buried in her hair. "I love you."
She drew away, holding his face in her hands. She smiled, tears starting anew in the depths of her eyes. "Really?" she murmured.
"Oh Ginny I love you so much. Just the thought of you kept me strong through it all. Even in the Final Battle, when I thought I'd lost for good, I had a sudden vision of you. Dumbledore was right when he said that my greatest power is love. My love for you gave me the strength to finally finish that bastard."
"Oh Harry!" she cried as she buried her face in his chest. "I love you too. I don't know what I would have done if anything had happened to you. I'm not sure I could have survived."
He kissed the top of her head murmuring, "I'm just glad you're safe. If he'd gotten to you, hurt you in any way, he would have won. If you had died, my heart would have died with you and nothing would be left in me to fight."
They simply laid there in his bed for a long time, holding each other and silently swearing that nothing would make them let go.
That is, until Molly Weasley walked in the door.
