Hey everyone, it's me, Sagistic, back with the re-upload of my story that involves Jaune adopting a baby Faunus which I'm now calling 'To be a Father'. Now if you read my previous attempt at this story then you might already know how things happen. However, there is a reason I'm making this A/N and that's to let you know that I'm switching things up. That's right, you may know what happens but I'm going to doing it out of order.
So get ready and enjoy my rewrite. Here is…
To Be A Father
Jaune let out a heavy sigh as he looked up from the makeshift grave marker, the only thing that let people know someone was buried there. While he continued to stare at the grave, a small whimper made him stop and look down at his feet to see a hand-woven cradle gently rocking back and forth. Within the cradle, tucked in by an ebony blanket, was a baby Faunus no older than six months. Even though Jaune couldn't clearly see her, he saw the pair of ears that were resting on top of her shadow.
"Shh…it's alright. I'm…I'm right here." Jaune said, his voice already breaking as he moved the blanket a bit to look at the baby. As soon as the baby say him, they stopped crying and tilted their head to the side before letting out a giggle. This made the blonde chuckle lightly before he turned back to the grave and felt the memories of what happened replay.

Beacon had just let out for summer break, meaning that the campus had practically been deserted by everyone, even most of the professors. For Jaune, it meant that he was left alone as the rest of his team and friends in Team Ruby left campus for a while. According to them, Yang and Ruby were going to head back to Patch, dragging Blake along while Weiss was headed back to Atlas to step some quality time with her family, though she didn't sound too enthusiastic about it.
As for his team? Pyrrha had apparently signed up for a tournament that was taking place at Haven Academy. Ren and Nora had also joined the red-head after she offered them a join as her honored guest however Jaune declined, understandably upsetting his team. However, they accepted the blonde's choice when he said that he was going to visit his family for a while and likely wouldn't be there when they came back. Unfortunately for the blonde, the CCT had been temporarily shut down for maintenance so he wasn't able to contact his family.
So it was that the blonde decided to use the sudden free time to better himself. And what better way to do that? Why going into a Grimm infested forest and testing your luck of course! Luckily for the blonde, he managed to find a small pack of Beowolves who looked hungry. Using the limited training he got from Pyrrha, Jaune managed to hold his own, his family blade going through the creatures like Ruby went through cookies.
However, the one thing the blonde realized was that his overall stamina needed work. This was apparent when, after he killed the last of the Beowolves, he didn't have the energy to move out of the way and was knocked into a tree by a charging Ursa. The Ursa managed to overpower Jaune with it's sheer weight, and even managed to slash as the blonde's leg. Jaune wasn't completely out of option and had used some dust crystals, that Weiss had given him, to blow the creature to bits.
Once he was sure that he could let his guard down, Jaune took the opportunity to rest his body and hope to be able to fight soon. About five minutes later the blonde had gained enough strength to get up and started heading out again. The thing is, the universe had apparently decided that now was an appropriate time to mess with the blonde. And so, after Jaune had only walked about twenty steps, a woman in a large cloak burst out of the foliage carrying a hand-woven cradle in one of her arms.
"There she is! Get her!" No sooner had she stopped in front of him, three White Fang member followed her out of the foliage before stopping when they saw her standing next to Jaune. "A human? Is that who you fall to for protection?" One of the Faunus asked, getting Jaune to raise an eyebrow when he heard the woman hiss. "How low you've truly fallen Mamushi*, siding with a human instead of accepting your fate." At that the woman hissed again before she looked back at Jaune.
"What's going on here?" Jaune said, walking in front of the woman with his hands raised. "Why are you chasing her?" At that, the three Faunus immediately raised their arms, showing that they were armed with blades. This caused Jaune to back up a bit but also tense his body in case any of them did something.
"She's a traitor." One of the other Faunus said, pointing their blade at the woman. "She'd gladly leave her brothers and sisters to fight for themselves. And all for a bastard child she had." At that, the woman hissed again before she pulled out a sword and aimed it at the White Fang members. "We're going to drag her and that child back, so she can face judgement."
"What's wrong with protecting her family. I'm sure she doesn't want a kid to grow up in blood and violence." Jaune said, moving his shield into a defensive position while he drew his sword again. This got the Faunus to ready their weapons while the woman put down the cradle before joining Jaune.
"This is your last warning. Leave now, or we will kill all three of you." One of the Faunus said. Jaune simply shifted his weight around while the woman let out another hiss. "Kill them!" Hearing that, Jaune widened his eyes before he raised his shield and blocked the three Faunus' swords. As soon as he did, that Jaune felt the woman place a hand on his shoulder and vault over him. Despite still having his shield up, Jaune had the image of someone having their throat cut open when he heard said person chocking.
"Kumo! You heartless bitch!" One of the Faunus shouted as Jaune lowered his shield and saw one of the White Fang members bleeding out right in front of him. Wincing at the sight, Jaune immediately decided to ignore the Faunus as he turned his attention to woman again just in time to see her kick one of the other Faunus into a tree.
"Watch out!" Jaune shouted when he saw the woman being approached from behind by fourth Faunus. The woman managed to turn just in time to avoid a fatal wound Faunus' sword, but not quick enough to avoid being hurt at all. As the woman fell to the ground in pain, Jaune rushed towards the new arrival and managed to raise his shield to block their next strike. Pushing against the Faunus, Jaune's body reacted on its own when he heard the two other Faunus yell.
Raising his sword, Jaune was surprised to see that the blade managed to catch the two other Faunus' sword as they were about to bring their blades down. However, as soon as Jaune registered what he did, his body also realized that it was already tired from his earlier fight against the Grimm. As a result, Jaune felt his muscles give and slowly let the Faunus push their weapons forwards. To Jaune's relief, the sound of someone yelling in pain made the other two Faunus back up.
Looking past his shield, Jaune saw the woman had stabbed the newest Faunus, giving him a nod before she looked past Jaune. The last two Faunus were now visibly shaken, both of them having taken a step back after Jaune and the woman focused their attention on them. Without warning, the woman dashed forwards and drove her blade into one of the Faunus before reaching over to the second and planting a kiss on their lips. Once Jaune realized what happened, the woman removed her lips and sword from the Faunus and smiled as the two both fell to the ground.
"What the…" Jaune said, getting the woman to look back at him and smile. The blonde couldn't help but smile as well before the sound of a gun firing made him stiffen up. After a few seconds, Jaune quickly looked himself over and let out a sigh when he saw that he wasn't hit. As soon as that registered in his mind, Jaune widened his eyes and looked at the woman to see a growing red mark on her clothes. As soon as the woman began to fall Jaune dropped his weapons and rushed to grab her.
"Are you alright!?" Jaune asked as he lowered himself to the ground. The woman shook her head before she opened her mouth, getting Jaune to lean in closer until he was nearly face to face with her. Once he was, the woman slowly reached out and planted a kiss on Jaune's lips, surprising the blonde. After a few seconds, the woman removed her lips and smiled at Jaune before she pointed to the cradle. Jaune took a second to look before he focused on the woman and widened his eyes. "You want me to take care of them?"
The woman nodded with a smile before she pulled out a scroll and placed it in Jaune's hands. Jaune didn't bother looking at the scroll and instead nodded at the woman as she began to close her eyes.
"Thank you…" the woman whispered out before her body went limp in the blonde's arms. Jaune didn't know how long he stay like that, but when he did move, the blonde instantly laid the woman by her baby before he grabbed his shield and began digging into the ground. As the sun began to set, Jaune placed down makeshift grave marker and took a second to keep his head bowed. After a moment of silence, the blonde let out a heavy sigh as he looked the makeshift grave marker, the only thing that let people know someone was buried there.
While he continued to stare at the grave, a small whimper made him stop and look down at his feet to see a hand-woven cradle gently rocking back and forth. Within the cradle, tucked in by an ebony blanket, was a baby Faunus no older than six months. Even though Jaune couldn't clearly see her, he saw the pair of ears that were resting on top of her silhouette.
"Shh…it's alright. I'm…I'm right here." Jaune said, his voice already breaking as he moved the blanket a bit to look at the baby. As soon as the baby say him, they stopped crying and tilted their head to the side before letting out a giggle. This made the blonde chuckle lightly before he turned back to the grave and smiled, "Don't worry, I'll do my best to look after her." Jaune said before the sound of multiple guns cocking made him freeze.
"Well isn't that touching. Too bad you won't live that long to do that." A voice said before Jaune felt the muzzle of a gun press itself against his temple. "Hand over the kid…and may just walk out of here with your life." The voice said getting Jaune to chuckle while he closed his eyes and hugged the cradle a bit closer. "What's so funny?"
"I was just about to say the same thing…" Jaune said before the man, and the other around the area were surrounded by a purple aura.
"What the fuck…" The Faunus asked before the surrounding area was flooded with lights.
"If you know what's good for you, then you'd do well to drop your weapons." A stern voice called out. Jaune didn't need to open his eyes to know the all too familiar tone Goodwitch used. As the lights began to fade, Jaune found himself falling into someone's arms while the sound of people grunting reached his ears and lulled him to sleep.
"Is he alright Ms. Goodwitch?" A voice asked the blonde disciplinarian.
"He's alright Peter, likely just winded from everything that's happened." Goodwitch said before she looked at the baby in the cradle that was looking at her. "Peter? Would you and Oobleck please take Mr. Arc and this child to the infirmary?" The two men simply nodded as the reached for the two. "As for the rest of you…" Goodwitch said as she stood back up and turned to the now floating White Fang members. "…allow me to show you what happens to those who try and harm my students."
And we're done. So, what'd you think? To be honest, I had a few different ideas for how to rewrite this; one of which was Jaune telling this as a bedtime story to his daughter. But, like I said, I'm switching things up a bit, like how Jaune's going to train.
Anyway, I'll continue to rework the other chapters and try to get them out quickly but where I am, connection to internet isn't the best.
