Author's Note: Okay, I'm fairly young(not college age yet) and I know I'm no top tier author. Constructive criticism would be good, but no personal jabs. Try to enjoy it. Try. Please.
At the sight of the blood spatter encompassing the arena, I trembled in my seat. It's not like the Judgements were unacustomed to. Everyone in this community knew very well why and how the Judgements took place, but no matter how many times I witness it I'm always floored by it's sight. Not disturbed or bothered, but floored. It's simple to say that when you committ a crime you will be punished for it, and the great principle who rules us very well understands that, but the sight of it is always uncanny. This time the villian in the arena was named Neville Menefee. I had seen Neville around town a few times, he was at the ripe age of twenty two and owned a grocery store with his two parents and girlfriend. As genuine as Neville seemed he always came across as a bit of a misfit. From a young age he didn't like to follow the set code the principle leader set for us. He liked to learn new things, and always questioned. He was convicted on another occasion for not attending the Saturday meetings, but as a gift to the community, they let him go that once. Now this time, he was caught critisicing the great principle himself. This, by no doubt, was the ultimate crime. The whole community was invited to watch him be put to his death. This will teach no citizen to commit crimes against the community, they would say. I sat and watched, occasionally closing my eyes to spare myself from the sheer bloodshed taking place in front of me. When it was over, the crowd applauded, aware that a threat to the community's security was no longer there. An air of relief was radiating around the arena. I got up from my seat and walked towards the exit, I saw a young girl by the name of Carter Ingram. "Constance, Constance!" the rambunctious 10 year old shrilled, tugging at my long brown hair in alacrity. "Wasn't it cool, Constance?", it was her first time at a judgement. In order to witness a judgement you had to be at least ten years of age, it is one of the greatest honors, and a sign of maturity throughout the community. "Haha, I suppose so" I said composing myself. Behind her followed her older sister Svea and her younger brother Jasper. "Svea!" I called waving. She hurried over. She had been my best friend since I was only five years old. She had sky blue eyes, long brown hair, and a warm smile.
"Sorry about Carter" she explained "It's her first time at a judgement."
"I understand, it is after all the biggest distinction of maturity in the community."
"Haha, yeah."
We continued to talk, walking back to my house her siblings trailing close behind. Once we had reached my house, we exchanged our last words.
"First day of school tomorrow, we're finally Junior Officials you know.."
The Junior Official Honors Society is a group that inducts the smartest kids in the community at the age of 15 and trains them to be officials after they go through regular schooling with their more inferior peers. The junior officials are put into a more eminent school with more discipline, and requires a great deal more work.
"I know, time passed so brusquely.. we'll finally meet the older training officials.."
"Are you scared?" Svea asked abruptly in a skittish timbre.
"A little," I answered "It's normal to be nervous."
"I guess, but I can't help but..."
"But what?" I responded.
"Oh, nothing haha, See you tomorrow!" Her and her siblings darted off back to their homes.
