Clint Barton x Skye (Daisy Johnson) - set in the middle of the last episode of Season 2
Skye sniffled silently, trying to stop the tears from flowing down her face. She had woken up in the crumbling cave next to Tripp's dead body.
"Coulson! Bobbi! Anyone!" she screamed with an already hoarse voice. Part of her hoped that everyone had already gotten out, that she would be the only one to die today... well, the only other one. But another part of her hoped that DC had come up with a plan, anything to get her out of here.
She spend a few more minutes crying and yelling when finally she gave up, letting her body slump down against the crumbling cave walls. Her head was pounding, getting louder by the minute, so she didn't hear the footsteps rushing towards her. The only reason she knew someone was there was the arms that wrapped around her weak body, picking her up and carrying away from the rubble.
Without opening her eyes she began to speak, "Coulson... i'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. It's my fault Tripp's dead".
The person carrying her came to an abrupt stop and for a moment she thought that he was going to drop her, going to leave her there to die like she had caused his friend to die. Hesitantly she looked up and was surprised not to see Coulson's face, but a younger man with untamed blonde hair and stormy grey eyes. He was staring back at her, just as surprised as she was.
"I'm-I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else..." she said quickly, wiggling, trying to get out of his strong arms.
The man shook his head and held her tighter, starting to walk again. This time just a bit faster.
"It wasn't your fault" he said quietly, his voice matching his looks; gravely, deep, sending chills down her spine.
Later she would tell everyone that she knew right away, but really it took her a moment for his words to absorb, for her to realize that it was his words that wrapped around her right ankle.
She gasped and watched as his eyes danced across her body, thinking that something was wrong, that she was hurting.
Shaking her head, his eyes went back to hers and she took a shaky break before responding, "I think you might be my soul mate."
The grin that crossed his face as they reached the cable at the end of the underground cave that would lift them back up into the world made her heart melt and butterflies erupt in her stomach in a way that they never had before.
"I think I just might" he responded, eyes gleaming as he gently yanked on the rope and the pair got pulled back up into reality.
