I was humming to myself as I threw clothes into my suitcase. I had a 2am flight out of LAX to New York. I was excited. It was one of the first times I was going there for fun. Usually I went for work. This time I was taking a much needed vacation. I had been under a lot of stress lately. Work was crazy and my boyfriend and I were on a break. Naturally I needed some time for myself.

I groaned when I heard the doorbell ring. I was somewhat of a 'packing zone' and the noise snapped me right out of it. I took my time as I walked down the stairs and to the door. I sighed as I opened it.

"What, you're not excited to see me?"

"Nick? What are you doing here?'

"Just wanted to say hi."

"Well you said it. Anything else?"

"Aren't you gonna invite me in?"

"I guess." I held the door open and he came inside. I closed the door behind him. "I'm kinda busy, but you can come upstairs with me if you want."

"You move fast."

"Oh ha ha. You're hilarious."

"Come on Miles. You know you love me."

"Right. Sure I do." He followed me upstairs and into my bedroom.

"I like your new room." For whatever reason I blushed.

"Thanks."

"So where are you going?" He asked me, motioning at my suitcase.

"New York. My flight leaves in four hours."

"Can I come?"

"What?"

"Can I come with? Vacations are no fun when you go alone." I couldn't believe the next words that came out of my mouth.

"Sure. Why not?"

"Great." I awkwardly stared at the ground before disappearing into the closet.

"I have a pair of your jeans and a few of your shirts. You can buy some stuff when we get there. I'm not wasting time by bringing you home first."

"Okay." I threw his clothes into a purple suitcase. He winced when he saw it. "Purple?"

"You'll take what I give you and like it."

"Bossy. That's hot."

"Won't your parents notice when you vanish for a few days?"

"They're in Jersey, visiting relatives."

"Great. Ready to go?" He gave me a funny look.

"By the time we get there we'll be two hours early."

"Who cares?" We grabbed the bags and threw them into my Prius. As I pulled onto the freeway I groaned. Only in L.A. would there be traffic at 11 o'clock at night. I wasn't in the mood for it. After about a half hour I looked over at Nick, who was looking nervous. "What?"

"You drive scary in traffic."

"Oh shut up. I'm a great driver."

"Sure you are." After what felt like forever we arrived at the airport. We made it through security and bought Nick's ticket without a problem. I flipped through a magazine until the plane boarded. Since most people don't fly in the middle of the night, me and Nick were the only people in first class. We ordered some soda and Nick decided to make conversation. "So...when did you guys break up?"

"I never said that we broke up."

"Come on. You wouldn't let another guy come tag along on your vacation if you had a boyfriend. And you're pretty bitter."

"I'm not bitter. And we're not broken up. We're on a break."

"On a break."

"What are you a parrot? Yes that's what I said. We're on a break."

"You okay?"

"I'm fine."

"You know you can talk to me. In case you forgot, a long time ago we used to be friends."

"Isn't that from a song?"

"Maybe." I sighed.

"Thanks for coming Nick." I smiled at him. "But as my friend. That's it. We're just friends."

"Got it." I smiled. Maybe this vacation would be just what I needed.

Just a random one-shot that I wrote last week on a 6am flight to New York haha.

P.S. I will be updating As the Thunder Starts to Crash at some point today.
