"What on earth is that," scoffed Remus, as Sirius rolled up on the roll beside him.
He was perched in the passenger seat of an ancient looking black Cadillac, with the top down and rusty, peeling paint. He had his arm lolling lazily on the side of the door, and he was grinning over at Remus.
"The ride of your life, baby."
Remus rolled his eyes, as he walked around the Muggle vehicle with his arms folded, casting his dark eyes over it suspiciously, before running his finger delicately along the rusty exterior. The registration plate was close to hanging off, and the wheels didn't look as round as they ought to. "I don't know about that..."
"Trust me?" Sirius replied with his signature cheeky grin, and Remus had to look away to avoid automatically returning his smile. "Come on, get in. I have a great night planned for us."
Despite emitting a hesitant sigh, Remus climbed into the passenger seat. There was no seatbelt, much to his dismay, and as Sirius screeched out of the neighbourhood at an uneasy pace, he was forced to grip onto the bottom of his seat in order to prevent flying straight out of the car, should Sirius make an emergency stop.
Once the pair were out of the rows of houses and into the countryside, Sirius reached out and jabbed at a few haphazardly placed buttons beside the tape deck. It was only at that moment that Remus noticed just how haphazard these buttons were; not one of them appeared to have been manufactured along with the car.
Before Remus could question this however, the Cadillac was suddenly lurching from the ground, front wheels first, until it was soaring in a steep motion into the sky. Remus shrieked, and ducked down in the seat, glaring across at Sirius.
The other boy didn't look anywhere near as shocked and terrified as Remus did. Instead, Sirius was continuing to lounge back in his seat, his long, dark hair flowing in the breeze, laughing at his friend's reaction.
"Sirius!" gasped Remus, daring to briefly look over the edge of the car door. He immediately pulled his head back inside. The trees below were already the size of leaves, and the road they had been travelling along now resembled, a long, winding grey snake. "What the hell are you doing!?"
"Oh calm down, Moony, it's just a bit of fun."
"A bit of fun?! We're going to die! Sirius, land this car immediately! Merlin's pants, we're not immortal," Remus was appalled. He didn't like flying at the best of times, preferring to be down in the stands with his feet on solid ground when James and Sirius were playing Quidditch. As they ascended above the first layer of clouds, Remus was sure he was beginning to feel faint. "I'm sure this is illegal. There are Muggle houses down there, for Merlin's sake!"
"We're invisible!" Sirius exclaimed with a laugh, and gestured behind the windscreen. "Look."
Remus rose his head slightly and looked ahead of them. Sure enough, instead of the peeling black bonnet that should've been visible, there was nothing, just more thick, white clouds.
"Just relax. I have an ACDC tape in the glove box. Stick it in and we'll have a jam," continued Sirius with a grin.
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Remus reached into the glove box for the tape that Sirius was talking about, soon filling the car with the heavy guitar riffs of one of Sirius's favourite Muggle bands.
