It was Always You

Chapter 1

Betty

When Betty Cooper first started the Blue and Gold she thought it would be a great experience for her and this school, but ever since she had started this paper by herself she felt as if everything was falling apart rapidly fast. No one was interested in their stories that they were coming out with and she had to do something drastic relatively soon or else she could kiss her newspaper and her shot at getting into Yale goodbye. And she wouldn't do that. She had worked too hard for this for it to be ruined because of some stupid newspaper she was trying to revive.

The door opened causing Betty to spill the proposals she had been reading for the paper to the floor as she sighed and went down to the floor to retrieve them as her best friend (And secret crush) Archie Andrews made his way through the front door.

"Hey, Arch. What's going on?"

"I have a proposition for you."

"and what would that be?"

"I want to write an article for your paper."

"Very funny Archie, but seriously what would a guy like you want to write an article about?"

"Sex with you of course."

Betty bulked trying to figure out a way to process this before Archie laughed defusing the tension in the room.

"I'm kidding Betty. But seriously will you hear me out for a second ?"

"Fine. You have a minute to convince me. Go on."

"alright, picture this. A column about the perfect guy who meets the perfect girl."

"So you basically want to write every story ever. What's the twist in this one? How is it gonna be original?"

"Because no one will know who this girl is."

"Okay, I'll bite. How will you keep her identity private? I mean surely someone will figure it out eventually."

"How about you put your faith in me and just let me give it shot for once."

"Archie you know I can't play favorites."

"I'm not asking you to. All I'm asking for is a chance. Is that too much to ask for?"

Betty sighed in frustration " Fine, I guess you can write one article, but if it doesn't get any response I will pull the article. Understood?"

"Perfectly. Thanks Betty you won't regret this."

"Won't regret what?" a voice said from the door causing both her and Archie turn towards it.

Betty's breath hitched as her co editor and secret crush, Jughead Jones leaned against the door frame, his eyes glazing over both her and Archie.

"Hey Jug, what are you doing here?"

"Obviously missing out on something very important. What's going on between you two?"

"Jug-" Archie started but Betty interrupted before he could say anything else.

"It was nothing Jug, Archie was just pitching an idea for an article for the Blue and Gold."

"Why didn't he run it past both of us?"

"He was just telling me about it because he wanted to make sure it didn't sound stupid before running it passed you." Betty said thinking of the excuse quickly.

"Okay fine. I;m listening. What is this supposed article of yours?"

"It's about a girl-" Archie started

"Of course it is. Listen Archie you can't just write about your love life for an article, it won't get any buzz."

"How could you be so sure?"

Jughead turned his attention to Betty after she was done speaking which made a deep blush settle across her cheeks as she fumbled on her next words.

"Wh-What I mean is that the vast majority of readers who read the blue and gold are dealing with some sort of relationship problem right?"

"I guess so."

"Then why don't we use Archie's article as a way to solve some of those problems?"

"How do you suppose we do that?"

"By making Archie's dream girl a person everyone can relate to ."

"How so? What girl can relate to every girl?"

" a fictional one." Archie answered with a smile obviously feeling proud of himself for the suggestion.

"Who would want to follow the life of a fictional girl?"

"Several people actually after all how many of our readers are into reading romance novels or books. Some people even worship fictional characters. So why can't our article be the same thing to them?"

"Because it's not authentic Betty. It's fantasy."

"What's wrong with a fantasy?"

Jughead sighed as he looked around the room willing for something in there to help him with his argument, but he knew no matter how much he tried to change her mind Betty would fight to get her way no matter how many hours it took her to do so.

"If I let you guys do this article will you stop bugging me about it?" Jughead asked feeling exasperated.

"Of course." Archie said with a grin.

"You better not make me regret this."

"You won't regret this, I promise." Archie said with a smile.

"You better be right about that." Jughead said as he spared a glance towards Betty making her wonder what the hell she had just gotten herself into.
