Fire.

All she could see was fire, its blazing majesty surrounded her. Nothing. But a wall of red, orange, yellow and gold. She could feel its heat even as the familiar cold of the snow lay beneath her feet and the harsh northern wind surrounded her.

A roar filled her ears and shook the sky, churned the seas and made the earth tremble. Fear flew through her veins, trampling all other instincts in its wake. She was surrounded by dense forest and darkness in every direction and the shadows were beginning to swarm.

RUN RUN RUN. Her mind chanted a constant mantra of blinding fear and terror. A sound snapped her mind from terror's sharp clutches; she could hear the beat of wings upon wind's breath, large wings. She heard the creaking of trees as they bowed, broke and shattered under the weight of an unyielding shadow.

'Wake'

A voice filled her head, a powerful voice that commanded respect, obedience and attention. She wanted to obey but she couldn't move. The fire surrounded her, impenetrable, impassive, both a shield and cage and she was chained by more than flames.

'Wake child'

The voice sounded again, her fear kept her shackled. She couldn't wake up. There was something in the darkness. Waiting for her. The trees groaned, the ground cracked. Whatever lay in the shadows was moving. Though she could see past the firelight, it was too dark to see clearly.

'There!' her entire being focused on a single glimmer in the firelight, reflecting the glow cast. As she looked she noticed that it was curved and seemed to shine with its own inner malevolence though it looked like polished stone, black as the depths of the sea, it still shone beautifully.

'You must unchain yourself'

The voice was distant, like a dream. She couldn't hear it fully, it echoed her head, rattling her skull but she dismissed it, she was entranced, she followed the curved black shape with her eyes and the darkness behind it shifted. A cold terror flooded her as her eyes locked with a pair that shone in the darkness beneath the trees. Eyes red like rubies, like fire, like blood.

'Child please'

She ignored the voice, she knew what she was looking at, staring at unblinking, surrounded by fire, with a curious mix of undisclosed fear and unmated awe written across her features.

The creature moved towards her, masterfully graceful despite its size. Always looking directly at her, directly straight at her eyes. She was looking at Death given flesh and Death looked back undeterred. The beast drew itself up to its full height, never breaking its stare, drawing in a breath and spoke, its rumbling growl shivered her skin and gnawed her bones, the words lost to time, the meaning to dust, she didn't understand but they resonated within her soul.

'Qobo zodrem dinok dii briinah. Zu'u lost so fah zu'u fen dreh. YOL TOOR SHUL'

She looked towards death as she was consumed by fire, she felt a roar in her ears, saw the colours of the flames as they rushed around her, smelt the smoke and ash, heard a voice scream and above all she felt the power filled command of WAKE!, As darkness consumed her.
