To The Gym
Piper sauntered across the room and glanced at Larry with pleading eyes. In return he purposefully made it his goal not to make eye contact with her. She had a reputation for doing this sort of thing when she wanted something and Larry was putting his foot down. He hated her puppy dog faces. They weren't horribly convincing, but they were convincing enough. As his eyes drifted away from her physique, Piper moved with him so that she disrupted his eye line that was adrift from her.
"Pipes," he moaned.
"Please?"
"No." He said monotonously as he shifted her off his lap and walked towards the window.
"Please?" She asked again, this time hanging on the denouement of the word.
"Pipes if I wanted to go for a run there's a perfectly good pavement right there!" He stated loosely gesturing out the window, causing Piper to roll her eyes.
"But it's not the same."
"Sure it is. Except its better, you save money."
"It's not so expensive."
"It's $160 a month! I could fill a car up with gas for that price."
"Well aren't you being a tad bit dramatic?" She said gesturing an inch with her thumb and forefinger.
"Well no… I'm not." He sighed. "You couldn't even stick to the lemonade diet and that was a lot cheaper."
"You're never going to let me forget that are you?"
"Can't say I will… no." He smiled wryly as Piper picked her weight up off the couch and waddled towards him. He watched as she leaned her head on his shoulder. He didn't even want to go to the gym and he certainly didn't want to spoil Piper more than what he already had either.
"Please?"
"Look if you can run every day for a week, without fail, next week I will join the gym with you. If you don't stick to it… I save myself $160." He bargained and he watched as Piper turned the situation over in her mind. Calculating his motives and whether it was possible.
"Deal."
"Deal?" He asked shocked.
"Yes, deal."
"You're not going to fight me on it?"
"Nope… it's a deal," she said walking away from him with conviction in her stride.
"Where are you going?" He asked as she opened the front door.
"One run a day right?" She asked her smile broad.
"Oh…" he said sitting back down on the couch and flicking the television on with the remote.
"This time next week I hope to be in a gym, running freely."
"It's a treadmill, it's not exactly free!" He yelled after her.
The last thing he heard was Piper's laugh before the door clicked shut after her.
