I just got really into Downton Abbey, and thought there was serious subtext between Cora/O'Brien - at least from the latter's POV and thought I'd write a (really) quick drabble.
Note: I don't drop 'er h's, I find it distracting, and feel it exaggerates the accent, especially because it tends to signify cockney rather than Yorkshire accents.
Let me know what 'ya think.
When I Dress Her
What does she think when I dress her?
Is she glad that I avert my eyes when she's uncovered or does it make her wonder?
Does she feel my breath on her neck when I tug her corset, does she know how hard I try not to hurt her when I pull the strings?
Can she feel my heart beat into frenzy through her back as I fasten her hair?
Does she see me blush when I meet her eyes in a mirror that would cost more than I'll ever earn from working for her.
'Thank you O'Brien that will be all.' She smiles - her eyes streaked with pity and she gives my shoulder a little squeeze and turns away.
I need to be more careful.

'How's the Yankee Queen this fine morning?' Thomas asks with a sneer, exhaling and turning to me.
'Usual, that crooning voice makes my skin crawl.' I throw the half finished fag across the courtyard, not remotely satisfied and turn inside.
'Oh I bet it does,' I pretend not to hear him say.
