Digimon: Crystal Quest
File 1: A Bold New World
In a small apartment in Crystal Tokyo a father had just opened a cardboard box. "Lance, I found your basketball!"
A red-headed twelve-year old boy with blue eyes came in. He wore blues jeans, a blue bandana and a white jacket. "Did you find Mom's Aviator Goggles?"
"I thought we put those in storage back in America, in case your grandparents wanted them."
"No, I packed them so I'd always have something to remember mom."
Lance's dad sighed. "Lance I know Mom passing away is tough for you; it's been tough for me too. But she would both want us to make a new start. We're even close to the queen and the Sailor Senshi; you can see the palace from your bedroom window."
"I don't care."
"Oh, here they are." Lance put the silver goggles over his bandana. "Listen, why don't you go out? Make some friends?"
"Why? I'd just have to say goodbye when we move again…"
"I know my job has kept us moving before, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to make some new friends. Your mother always believed that we need friends to support us and they need us to support them, we need each other. So will you at least try?"
"I'll try Dad." He turned to leave when he stepped on something. He looked down and saw what an odd blue watch with a raised white V pattern on it. "Wonder what this is?"
"The previous owners must have forgotten it. You can have it until they ask for it back, if they miss it that much."
"Thanks Dad." He then put the watch on and went out the door.
"Miyaki, please talk to me!" A twelve year old girl with short black hair, blue eyes wearing a school uniform said to another girl her age. The other girl had brown hair that she wore in a bang that covered one of her eyes, green eyes and was wearing a black outfit with pants and a tank top that would be somewhat reveling if she was more developed.
"Why?" I thought you weren't my friend anymore Nozomi-san." She said sardonically as she kept walking down the street not even looking back at Nozomi.
"Listen, what you did to Akaru was cruel and that was why you didn't have any friends after she started standing up for herself. But we're in middle school now; Akaru doesn't even go with us there; it's a chance for you to have fresh start."
"So?"
"So why are you pushing everyone away?"
"You know, her doing that was the best thing to ever happen to me. Before I thought you wouldn't get hurt if you hurt someone else first. What she did teach me was that was just a waste of energy; if you don't want to get hurt the best thing to do is not to let anyone get close enough to hurt you in the first place."
"But, I won't hurt you. I only yelled at you because I was worried about you."
"If you are so worried about me then do me a favor and just leave me alone. I don't need friends, I would be perfectly happy if I was just me from here on out."
"I thought we're just shallow; but even that is better than living your life thinking that everyone is out to hurt you. You're making it so no one would care about you, but the thing that really scares me is it that you want it that way."
"Are you done?"
Nozomi stopped trying reason with her and left. Miyaki turned into an alley and found something catch the sunlight. She looked closer and saw that it was a pink watch with a white V. "Someone must have lost it." She said while picking it up. "Oh well, it's mine now." She put the watch on.
Meanwhile in Taiwan a boy Lance and Miyaki's age had just uppercut a bully threatening a little girl. He wore a Red suit that was worn by Kung Fu practitioners. He had brown eyes and short black hair "Would anyone like to make a fifth try?" The three older boys turned and ran. "The weakest dogs always bark the loudest." He turned to the little girl. "They're gone; I don't think they will bother you…"
"Take my money!" she said. "Just don't hurt me!"
"You don't need to be afraid of me, I just protected you."
"But for all the wrong reasons, Chen." said an old man who walked up.
"Master, what do mean?" Chen said as the girl ran off.
"I saw it in your eyes, when you stepped in your first thought was not in keeping the girl safe but your own desire to fight those young men. I taught you to fight for the sake of others not yourself, but you seem to fight only for the sake of fighting."
"So I enjoyed the fight, that isn't wrong is it?"
"My main concern is that you were too eager to prove yourself. Return home, I think it would do you well to meditate on the reasons for your failure."
Chen clenched his fist. "Master, Grandfather. What do I need to do prove myself to you?" as he turned he saw a red watch with a white V. He was so frustrated he put it on without thinking.
In a large mansion in England a black haired boy with green eyes wearing brown shorts, white shirt, green vest and glasses was sitting at the end of a large table he was looking at the screen of a laptop computer. On it was a well dressed couple. "Edmond we're sorry that we can't make it home in time for your birthday." The father said. "We thought our business in New Zealand wouldn't take this long, and now with a typhoon coming in we won't be able to finish in time."
"We're very sorry. Know that we love you and we are going to make up for it when we get back." said his mother.
Edmond turned the computer off as a butler came in. "Master Edmond, in order to make the needed perpetrations for your birthday party I need to know many of your school friends you have invited."
"None."
"Pardon me, but did you say none?"
"No one at school knows how rich I am, if they did they wouldn't want to be friends with me or they would just be friends because of my money."
"Master Edmond, the only other guests we would be expecting would be business associates of your mother and father and their children."
"I don't want any guests, or a party, I just don't feel up to it. Horace, can you please just leave me alone for a little while?""
"As you wish, Master Edmond; I shall not cancel just yet, but I want you to know that if you need anything, including an ear to listen I shall be here; not only as your servant, but as a friend of your father."
"Thank you, Horace."
Horace then stopped. "Oh, just one more thing; I found this among your presents. It was unwrapped, probably from one of your mother's technology business partners and I think getting one of your presents early might cheer you up a little."
As Horace left, Edmond put on the green watch with a white V on his wrist then turned back to the window.
In Paris a girl with blonde hair in curls with blue eyes and a blue dress was climbing out of her bedroom window. From another window she could hear her parents arguing.
"No wonder Colette gets such poor grades, you are so lazy you won't even get a job!"
"It wasn't my fault that the company needed to layoff me and my coworkers! And I would get a job if you wouldn't spend all of my hard-earned money on wine that I'm not drinking!"
"That wine is an investment; it could very well put Colette through college!"
Colette just couldn't hear anymore, she leapt down to the street and started running into the night. "It's entirely fault. Mama and Papa wouldn't be getting a divorce if I didn't need so much money for my operation." She touched the scar from the operation to fix her weak heart with a pacemaker. "But maybe now that I am running away they can love each other again."
She ran for a while until she reached a park bench. She saw a yellow watch with a white V on it. Wanting to return it to whoever lost it, she decided to put it on seeing that her dress didn't have pockets and she didn't bring a backpack.
Just then all five watches began to emit a bright light. The next thing each child knew the light surrounded them and then they started falling through what seemed like an empty space. They all spotted what seemed like an earth-like planet just before whiting out.
Lance stirred and looked into a clear blue sky; he looked around and saw the other four children getting up. Their surroundings looked like a small grove in the middle of a meadow. "Can any of you tell me what happened or where we are?"
"You speak Chinese?" said Chen.
"What are you talking about?" said Edmond. "That was the queen's English."
"You're all speaking perfect French." said Colette.
"It sounds like Japanese to me." said Miyaki. She then turned around. "But more importantly, why is the Crystal Palace in the sky, and upside-down!?"
Sure enough it seemed as if an exact replica of the palace was hanging from the bottom of a large cloud. Ok, now I really want to know where we are!" said Lance.
"You are all in the Digital World." A new voice said. They turned to see what looked like a red bipedal lion about half their size wearing a sun emblem on his forehead.
"Who or what are you?" asked Chen.
"I am a Digimon or Digital Monster, my name is Coronamon."
"You're what?" asked Edmond. Just then their watches each reacted and projected a hologram of the creature and spoke out.
Coronamon: a rookie level beast Digimon that is connected to the sun. Special Attack: Corona Flame
"Ok, what was that?" asked Colette.
"Your vector Digivices or Vector-D's are your aides in this world and one way they do that is to give information on the Digimon you meet."
"Vector-D, you mean this watch I found?" Miyaki asked.
"You didn't find them, they found you."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Lance asked.
"You will learn when the time is right. Lance, Miyaki, Chen, Edmond, Colette remember this; the friends you make in world have great power within them, but to unlock that power you need to unlock the keys born of your own hearts." Coronamon was then wrapped in flame and vanished when it dispersed.
"Now what!?" asked Miyaki.
"And how did he know our names?" asked Chen.
"Wait." said Edmond. "Does anyone else hear buzzing?"
Just then a giant green creature that looked like a humanoid insect blocked the sun. "Children; you are jussssssst what I wasssss paid to eliminate!"
The Vector-D's acted up again.
Stingmon: a Champion level insectoid Digimon. This assassin of the digital world destroys his targets with his Spiking Strike attack.
"Eliminate?" Colette asked.
"I wassss told that Children from another world would come to interfere with a certain someone's plans, and I was promised quite a large sum to get rid of them!"
"You want to kill us?!" said Chen.
"It's nothing personal, just business." A large stinger came out of Stingmon's arm and glowed purple.
"SPIKING STRIKE!"
Stingmon lunged forward trying to impale them they leapt away at the last second.
"This way!" Edmond yelled after finding a narrow ditch. They jumped in and ran along it; Stingmon was too big to fit in.
"This isn't going to hold it off forever!" said Miyaki.
Lance just ran forward until he ditch ended in a clearing with a large purple crystal growing in the middle of it. He ran into the crystal and from his touch it started to crack. "What, what's happening?!"
The crystal shattered and standing in its place was a blue-green dragon with small red wings and antler like horns. It looked at Lance and then leapt at him in a hug. "You freed me! I knew you'd come one day!"
"What?"
"I'm your partner Dracomon!"
"Partner, Dracomon?"
Dracomon: a rookie level Digimon that is said to be the heir to the power of legendary dragons. Special Attack: Dragon Breath.
"Yeah I was supposed to wait for a child from another world to come and become my partner. So what's your name?"
"Uh, Lance."
"Nice to meet you Lance!"
"Hey, we got a bigger problem over here!" said Chen. Stingmon just came over the clearing. "I had jusssssst about enough of chasssssing you! Prepare for elimination!"
"You're not eliminating anybody!" said Dracomon. "Especially my partner!" Dracomon ran up and let lose a stream of fire from his mouth. "DRAGON BREATH!" The attack hit Stingmon but he only seemed stunned for about a second. "It didn't work?"
"Do you think that sssssssuch a weak attack could sssssssstop the likesssssss of me?"
"SPIKING STRIKE!"
Dracomon was managed to avoid most of the blade but the energy from it hurt him badly and he struggled to get up.
"You were going to protect him from me? You can't even protect yourssssself!"
"Lance, we have to get out of here!" said Colette. "There's nothing we can do for him!"
Lance just stood there. "Dracomon, we just met and you're still willing to put your life on the line for mine?"
"Your mother always believed that we need friends to support us and they need us to support them, we need each other." His father's words echoed.
"You're here for me, so I'm going to stand by you! No matter what it takes!"
Just then a light seemed to come from his chest it then emerged and became a small key with a band connected to it. "What is this thing?"
"Hold on a minute." said Edmond. "Remember what Coronamon said?"
"Lance, Miyaki, Chen, Edmond, Colette remember this; the friends you make in world have great power within them, but to unlock that power you need to unlock the keys born of your own hearts."
"Are you saying that's the key he was talking about?" asked Chen.
Lance took a closer look at his Vector-D and saw at the end opposite the point of the V was a slot that looked like it would fit his key perfectly. "Ok Dracomon, I don't know what this is going to do to you but it can't be worse than how you are now. Here goes everything!"
Lance took the key and readied it. "DIGIKEY, CONTACT!" he then inserted the key into the Vector-D sending a burst of light to Dracomon.
Dracomon started glowing. "What's happening to him?" said Miyaki.
Stingmon on the other hand seemed to have an idea. "He'sssssss Digivolving?"
Lance seemed to see Dracomon zooming down in a tunnel fully healed but more was happening.
"DRACOMON DIGIVOLVE TO…"
Code and light spread over parts of his body changing them until he became a large bipedal blue dragon with red horns coming from the back of his head and his nose with big wings.
"COREDRAMON! RAWR!"
Coredramon: A champion level Digimon with powerful wings; its special attacks are Strike Bomber and Flare Breath.
"It doessssssn't matter if you digivolved or not." said Stingmon. "All who stand between me and my targetssssss will be eliminated!"
"SPIKING STRIKE!"
Coredramon then grabbed his stinger and broke it in half.
"No! Thissssssssss can't be!"
"Anyone who tries to hurt my partner has to answer to me!" said Coredramon.
"STRIKE BOMBER!"
Coredramon swung his tail at Stingmon sending him flying.
"FLARE BREATH!"
He sent a stream of blue fire at Stingmon from his mouth.
"Kiiiyaiiiiiiiiiiiii!" Stingmon was turned into a sphere of data that flew off.
Coredramon glowed and then returned to Dracomon.
"Whoa." said Lance as the key popped out of his Vector-D. "Did we do all that?"
"Yeah, we sent that guy's Digicore packing!" said Dracomon.
"So we meet some new people, a transforming dragon and survived the attack from a reject from a bug spray commercial." said Miyaki. "Can we go home now?"
"Somehow I don't think it works that way." said Colette.
"Seems we all need 'partners' if we're going to stand a chance of surviving this place." said Chen.
"Then we should find my friends!" said Dracomon. "We were all looking for you!"
"By the way." asked Lance. "How did you get in that crystal?"
"I can't quite remember. Everything from before I meet you is a blur."
"Well looks like we got a long road ahead of us." said Edmond.
As they started to walk a figure was watching from behind a tree. "So that is the power of a human child, Stingmon's failure may yet be useful. Muhahahahahaha."
