Empty Eyes
His eyes were cold and empty and as lifeless as the body they belonged to. His once brown and warm eyes appeared to be nothing more than icy, colored marbles, forever staring into the distance.
The sickeningly smell of uncertainty and helplessness surrounded and weakened her legs with every step she took towards the green curtains. Green, like her mother once told her, was a symbol of peace and a glimpse of hope but being at peace was far from what Alicia was feeling. Shock and disbelief overcame her like a wave and the words she never thought she'd ever hear still echoed in her mind.
Alicia could feel her stomach drop and the blood drain from her face. The world seemed to stop, the only sound being her breathing and the strong hammering of her heart in her chest. The man who loved her when she felt undesirable and unworthy of love, was now dead. The man who fought for her heart when being with Peter seemed to be the only solution, was now gone. The man who hired her when nobody else would after the scandal hit her, her family and everything around her, was now so far away and forever out of reach.
Will's chest was covered in blood and his tie was ripped off forcefully. The grey suit, which once looked so flawless on his body, had blood stains everywhere and his skin turned pale. Will used to be so full of life and joy and nothing and no one could ever stand in his way.
Seconds felt like hours and life around her turned into slow motion. Alicia slowly lifted her gaze with shaking hands and a terrified heart. She was scared of the unknown pain she was about to experience and the realization of him being gone. Never in a million years Alicia would have thought that she'd have to face his dead body and the unbearable pain that comes with the loss.
Streams of tears started to flow faster than her own heartbeat and a loud sob escaped her lips. The sight of his dead body made her hands start shaking uncontrollably and her legs give in. Alicia was unsure of which pain was worse, the shock of what had happened or the ache for what never would. Her heart was shattered and torn into a million pieces She should've listened to her heart. She shouldn't have held back her feelings. Her heart was beating for him all this time, for him alone.
Alicia took one more step towards him and slowly reached out for his hand. The familiar hand that once sent warmth through her whole body was now bitterly cold and sent a shudder through her broken body. Tears of pain ran down her cheeks but her sobs became quieter.
Alicia knew that she would never be able to look in those loving eyes again. Eyes so full of love and passion. She knew that their way to communicate without words was something no one else could ever give her again. Alicia knew that life without him would never be the same and she knew, what her heart wouldn't be happy again.
