What's in a dream?

One night I didn't dare sleep,

fearful of nightmares,

as I counted my sheep.

Your face floated in my head,

rejecting me as I cried in bed.

You weren't there but your spirit haunted,

even in my dreams,

my love was taunted.

Then, somehow, sleep overcame.

Finally accepting defeat,

in that tiresome game.

Then, ghostly, you appeared,

wishing me goodnight,

the remedy that cured my dreams

of fright.

I hope someday you will return,

and claim me back again.
