Klaus: Katerina, come to meet your end?

Katherine: I have come to give you the cure.

Klaus: That was very wise of you, Katherina.

Katherine: Well, you would chase me to the very ends of the Earth for this, so I might as well give you this now to buy me some more time and give you less reason to chase me.

Klaus: You came for your freedom.

Katherine: I guess you can say that. I came for me, and closure.

Klaus: Closure?

Katherine: Yes, before I found out that you wanted to sacrifice me over a stupid rock, I felt that you loved me. I wanted to know if that was true.

Klaus didn't respond, he didn't know what to say. He was unsure of his feelings.

These past five centuries, Klaus spent it hating and resenting Katherine for costing him another 500 years without being a hybrid, he forgot that he actually cared for her, the way that his brother, Elijah also cared for her, the same way that they both cared for Tatia.

That damn Petrova attraction, Klaus thought.

Because they were both Petrova doppelgangers, it made them harder to resist.

But it was different with Katerina. Both Elijah and Klaus were in love with Tatia, but when Tatia chose Elijah, Klaus allowed her to be happy.

500 more years down the line came Katerina Petrova, another doppelganger that both Klaus and Elijah fell in love with, but the only difference was Klaus tried not to love Katerina, he knew that Katerina would choose Elijah, the same way Tatia did, because he was the noble brother.

He tried his best not to fall for her, but he couldn't. In that moment, Klaus remembered every moment they had 5 centuries earlier, every smile, every word. It pained him to want to sacrifice her, but he figured that another Petrova doppelganger would come by, and he would just fall for her as well. That never happened.

He met the doppelganger who finally allowed him to break the curse on him, but she wasn't his Katerina. Elena was a mirror image of Katerina, but nothing like her. He couldn't even fall for her, she didn't have the spark that Katerina had.

Klaus knew he loved Katerina back in 1942, he knew he still loved her now, but he would never admit that to her because of her betrayal.

Suddenly Katherine interrupted his train of thoughts.

Katherine: I guess not, Klaus.

Klaus: Since you brought me the cure, I suppose I owe you your freedom.

Katherine looked shocked that Klaus said that.

Klaus was shocked himself.

Katherine: You don't owe me anything.

Katherine said as she walked away from Klaus.

Katherine thought back to 1492, the first moment she met Klaus. She was taken by him immediately. She thought he was the most handsome man she has ever met.

Getting to know him was amazing to her. She eventually fell for him, and realized that Elijah loved her too.

She knew she was also attracted to Elijah, but it was clear that her heart belonged to Klaus.

But those feelings were buried the moment that she found out he was going to sacrifice her.

Later on, she fell for Elijah because he did everything to save her, she knew that with him she would be safe, her heart would be safe.

But her feelings for Klaus was always stronger. She would have chose him.

But instead she chose herself.

The same way Klaus chose himself.

Katherine knew that she and Klaus were the same.

They both are paranoid, self preserved, and manipulative. But they were both alone, and they hated it.
