To say that Kevin liked the sound of his own name is an understatement. But hearing it come out of Edd's mouth made him feel all sorts of things.
It wasn't always this way. As kids, the sound of Edd's voice annoyed him. Not all that high pitched (unless he was yelling and then Dear God, pass the earplugs!), but grating. Especially since he could hardly ever understand what the kid was talking about half the time. But, puberty changed them both.
His own voice went down a few octaves to a smooth baritone. Edd's went to a smooth tenor. He still didn't understand him half the time, but he didn't mind listening to him talk. Especially when he was talking to him. And like a moth to a flame, he was drawn to the beanie clad genius' voice and he just had to get him talking. If only to hear him say his name.
Still, context is everything.
"KEVIN!"
Edd's scared. Kevin's either in another fight, or he's calling on the jock to come save him from another bully's beat down. Either way, bad things are happening and the ravenette needs Kevin by his side. So Kevin pulls himself away from the idiot(s) who dare make fun of him, Edd or their relationship. Edd would never want him to get in trouble on his account, even when Kevin was doing it for them. Or he's running, sprinting to the raven haired genius in a flash, fists flying, arms and body ready to protect.
"Kevin!"
Kevin's head snaps up and Edd's face is red, those baby blue eyes of his darkened with rage. Now Edd is only about 5'9. Kevin is 6 foot even. But the way that Edd is stalking towards him is equal parts adorable and frightening. Did he leave the toilet seat up again? Socks on the floor? Dishes in the sink? Whatever it is, Kevin swears he'll never do it again as he opens his arms to catch the Mad Scientist in his arms and cover him with kisses. They both know he'll never change, but they also both know that he does try.
"Kevin."
Edd's arms are crossed across his chest, an eyebrow is arched and he looks so unamused. Which means that Kevin is about to get a lecture on safety, being responsible and how to not have fun. But Kevin grins, Edd smirks and then reviews their medical and life insurance policies.
"Kevin!"
Edd's eyes are wide with delight, gapped tooth grin plastered on his face and his cheeks are positively pink. Kevin is in for another lecture, but the football coach doesn't mind.
There's a reason why Dr Eddward Marion Vincent-Barr is one of the most sought after scientific minds in the world. He has never stopped trying to learn something new. Which means Kevin learns something new.
But Edd has a way of teaching him things in a way he can actually understand it. Which is why he managed to get out of high school with a B average and college was more of the same. Plus, it means that Edd is talking to him.
"Kevin!"
Edd's head is tossed back and his back is arched. He's flushed from head to toe and his baby blues are sapphire with love, lust and desire. And it's like Kevin's name is the only thing he can say. Because it is. He squeezes him tight and kisses him softly and Edd's a gasping, moaning mess, begging for more of Kevin.
"Oh, Kevin."
This is Kevin's favorite rendition of his name. Edd's cuddled close, trying to hide his tear stained face and that grin that Kevin loves so much. Kevin's managed to pull off a sweet surprise and Edd is floored. Or he's just done something nice just because.
Kevin's not the most romantic guy on the planet, but if he can get Edd to give him that grin, baby blues eyes to fill with happy tears and see his cheeks go that delightful shade of red that he just loves, he's doing it. And it doesn't hurt that Edd's saying his name. Again.
