Over the years, Nico has learned to appreciate irony. If he hadn't, he probably would have already killed himself (but that would mean seeing his father all the time…).

Bianca joining the Hunt, excited to be immortal. Killed in battle not a week later.

Bringing Percy to the Styx to become invulnerable, and having Hades imprison him instead.

Now Nico finally has a chance to prove himself, to show that children of Hades are not bad luck. All he has to do is tell the Greeks where Camp Jupiter is. But he can't, because he can see part of the bigger picture and it needs to be kept secret for now. Then Percy arrives, and it's all he can do to restrain himself from telling Annabeth that her boyfriend remembers her.

So while once Nico might have been overwhelmed by the situation he was put in, now he responds to both 'Ambassador of Pluto' and 'Zombie Boy'. He even laughs at himself sometimes, because he used to hate liars. Then he became one. And funny enough, he used to hate hypocrites as well.
