Another New Year's Eve party had gone excellently even with the not so great help from my still clumsy sister Bella. After having a quiet evening with all of my family members, and also our furry friends, I found myself standing next to my love, Major Jasper Whitlock. I always had to giggle when I thought of my husband that way. Eventhough it was such a big part of his personality, never having seen him in the actual role and knowing his softer side always made it hard for me to really take it seriously.
As usual, I felt a little uncomfortable having been blind the entire time due to the wolves' presence at our little soirée. My vampire mind was only too capable of thinking around the fact that my gorgeous, loving husband was now stroking my hand to think of several devastating possibilities that I could have missed during my temporary blindness. To be perfectly honest, I was not only feeling uncomfortable but also a bit irritable and I wanted to have something to do that would be all encompassing for my mind.
My siblings lingered just on the periphery of my vision, not wanting to disturb our moment of peace but also eager (in most cases then, Bella was still an incurable partypooper) to get a move on to the party that we planned to attend in Seattle. It was a pity that Renesmee still looked just too young to come along. There was no way for us to get her in, even with Renesmee looking like a young model. Alcohol would not be a problem, Renesmee disliked that as much as she disliked any other type of human food, if not more. But I calculated that in two years from now, with her speeded growth that was levelling off, she would be able to join us.
As I turned to face Jasper, he felt my movement and met me perfectly halfway. I was tempted to stay in tonight, it had been a while since we actually had some real alone time. I held my hand out and let it rest on his cheek. His eyes closed at my touch, he leaned his cheek into my hand and the look on his face was enough to strengthen my resolve to stay in, my own decision for a change. Unfortunately my family was not going to let us off easily.
Emmett broke through the serenity with his booming laugh. "Alright guys, time to give up the gooey mush and get going. The party is gonna get good anytime soon."
"They probably think the party is going to be here if anywhere, if you ask me," Rosalie answered.
"We could also just stay in otherwise." Of course, who else but Bella to suggest that idea. Of course, I knew that actually Jasper would also prefer to stay in, that was simply the way Jasper was. After a split second of deliberation, I decided to give in to what I truly wanted to do and I made that clear to the others. Edward heaved a sigh of relief when he realised that he did not have to drag his unwilling wife anywhere that she would not want to go. I snorted, what a softy sometimes.
"I'm with Bella on this one." The sounds of surprise would have been hard to miss even with less sensitive ears.
"Huh?" Emmett, always so eloquent, I giggled at his reaction.
"I said, I'm with Bella on this one. I'm not in for it tonight. You guys go ahead if you want." A pointless remark, I knew no one would go without me. I grabbed Jasper's hand and together we ran to our room to finally sound in the new year in our very own way.
