He stopped what he what he was doing and snapped his gaze towards her, staring and waiting for her to reaffirm what she had just said. When she did nothing but stare back, it told him everything. He felt like he'd just gotten punched in the chest. The air had escaped his lungs and slowed his thoughts to wrap them around the news she just laid on him.
Pregnant. This was something he had always feared. Something brought up as a joke or a prank, but since finding her, he supposed that he had settled down a little. Of course the idea of it still petrified him, mentally and physically. He struggled to find words. He knew he had questions but he couldn't even think of how to say them. It was embarrassing really. He never got flustered or stunned, and now he was both at the same time.
Clearing his throat and readjusting his posture more confidently, he finally found the words to recover and speak. "W-When did you find out?" He asked, still with an awed expression that he couldn't fully gain control of.
"Yesterday."
He quickly glanced to her stomach and back when he began to feel overwhelmed by the thought of something he created growing inside her stomach. He took a deep breath and looked into her eyes, suddenly seeing them with a new light. She had a new light to her all over. As his eyes searched all around her, he found that light everywhere. Every inch of her looked more beautiful than he had ever seen her. Even while her hair was ratted from the stresses of the day and bags were under her eyes, he didn't see all of those negatives. All he saw was the woman he loved and in that moment, he realized what he wanted more than anything and it was standing right in front of him.
He struggled again to form another sentence as the reality of it all started to sink in. "Do you…know what it is?" He asked, staring into her eyes while his own began to develop a glossy shine.
She shook her head and smiled at the subtle sight of what she thought was tears welling in his eyes.
Seeing her bashful smile had always calmed him and he was thankful for that, especially now. "Well," his eyes hovered lazily over her as a small grin slowly crept onto his face, "then I guess we'll need to prepare for either."
The longer this piece of news had to sit and swell through his brain, the more confidence he grew, allowing him to grasp the idea that a baby might be so bad after all.
