Disclaimer :: In no way do I own any of this story, which includes the plot line, characters, creatures, places, spells, etc. The Harry Potter series is owned by JK Rowling.
Author's Note :: Yes, this is yet another Lily/James fanfic. My reason for writing it is the same as everyone's: I want to tell it how I imagined it. So here is my version of that story, rated T because of minor violence.
Story Description :: James Potter has only ever seen the fiery, passionate Lily Evans. But as time goes on, he begins to suspect that there is another Lily he's never seen. If she'd be willing to open her icy heart, he'd be the one to warm it.
Notes About This Chapter :: I definitely plan to have longer chapters than this in the future, but this one ended up being rather short. It's mainly just a prologue, but I think it falls more under the title of a chapter. Long story short: this is a short chapter. LOL
Other :: Please let me know if I spelled anything wrong. I'm very good at doing that! ;D
An early winter with heavy snows began another year at Hogwarts. As soon as the relentless blizzards began, Quidditch practice and Hogsmeade visits had been canceled, much to everyone's dismay. Students now gathered around the fires in their dormitories, or braved the freezing walk to the library, where their icy limbs would be greeted by a similar blaze, and they would have the means to study for the upcoming exams.
Standing at the frosted window, Lily allowed her breath to make the cold flee the window. At the same time, she traced a pattern of little blue and white ice crystals stuck to the outer side. Soon, her fingers were just as cold.
James glanced up from studying, and as Lily turned to resume her seat, his eyes met hers.
She was, hands down, the most beautiful girl he had ever met, although "met" might be too amicable of a term. Perhaps something more like "seen" would be a better. Their last real conversation had been about three months ago, and ended with a group of first years scampering away, afraid that there might be two angry giants in one of the hallways. If she would only just smile at him…then he live in peace.
By the time his thoughts had passed, Lily had given him one of her glares, and he immediately turned back to his studying.
Their relationship was definitely a work in progress.
