Disclaimer: A long time ago in a galaxy far away... I did not come up with the idea for Star Wars. I don't own any of these characters except Luminara, who is my creation. I don't own the idea, just the movies on DVD.

Luminara stood in the shadows, her face hidden by the half-opened door she stood behind. Lightsaber pulsing, turning from cobalt blue to emerald green to jeweled garnet. She had deliberately let it protrude from the shadows, as a reminder to Anakin that she was watching.

Anakin. Her Anakin. The one who had turned away from her, from everyone. She had learned of his rise to power, hidden away in her home, under a false name, and living a false life. Learned of how he had destroyed a planet. Learned of how he was feared by all.

And yet, hoping against hope, she still prayed he would make the right decision when the time came. The time that was now.

She watched as Luke was thrown on the floor and mercilessly electrocuted. She watched as Vader – no, Anakin – stood there and did nothing. And then he moved.

Effortlessly lifting the Chancellor high above his head, Anakin threw him over the railing and watched as Palpatine fell into the bowels of the ship. She watched as Anakin sank to his knees, watched as Luke cradled the fallen hero in his arms.

She stood there, wanting to call out to him, hold him, let him know she had been true to him always, no matter how much she protested otherwise. But something else nudged her in the direction of the waiting troops, telling her to leave them alone.

She was spared the pain of watching him die. She was spared seeing how he had shriveled and become a shadow of the man she had loved. But she was denied the pleasure of touching him and telling him those three words she needed to say so much.

Smiling bitterly, she flicked her lightsaber's switch and turned away, her steps echoing hollowly as she turned away from her husband.
