The Legend of Rymund and Nathaniel

Chapter 1 The Story Begins

The day began like any other in the small farming village, so small it was it had no name. The children played in the streets while the adults worked the fields. A light flute music permeated the air and all the children ran to the road.

"Ari's coming." Shouted a child

"Ana's here." Said another little girl. The children looked down to the road to see the object of their focus happily sauntering down the road a dance in her step, playing a merry tune on her flute. This was Ariana the Elven storyteller, she wore fanciful clothes of finely woven fabric of the deepest green lined with golden trim. Rings, necklaces and bracelets of the finest silver also adorned her graceful figure. The children followed whimsical bard to clearing in the forest where she jumped up on a tree stump and sat down on the stump one leg dangling over the edge.

"Well hello my children have you all been behaving well." Asked Ariana in an almost motherly tone.

"Yes, Ariana."

"Very good!" the elf beamed at them. "And all good children should be rewarded. No what tale should I regale to you this day?"

"The tale of the Halfling thief!" called a child.

"The Legend of Drizzt!" Shouted another.

"Yeah him!" the crowd of children began shouting in agreement

"But I've told so many stories about him." Pouted Ariana, she began to look at the various rings adorning her fingers, one in particular with the figure of a red dragon etched on it. The image sparked memories of happier times. "Have I ever told you the Legend of Rymund and Nathanial?"

"Who are they?"

"Who are they, unlike many other tales I actually knew these legendary men personally." She stood up on the stump. "Rymund Oakborne and Nathaniel River two men who were very different, Rymund a decorated man who was a hero at the tender age of 13 and grew up to be a man of the king's watch and a powerful ranger of the wilds. A man who was known by many titles; The Watcher of the Woods, Stalker, Dragonslayer and Drowfoe." She paused for only a moment. "While Nathaniel had no exploits to his name, no titles to call his own, he was only a monk on mission to discover his destiny. Yet these two very different men share a common past. Both were once feared and hated, not for who they were but for what they are." She paused for dramatic effect. "And so their story begins here."

Well this is my first D&D story, but it might eventually have some Forgotten Realms elements in it.
