The Price
by TacomaSquall
They all look to me
To tell them what to do -
To provide guidance
In this conflict.
Duty drags me one way,
But my heart goes another -
Can I abandon her?
Can I just turn away?
She needs me beside her,
To support her -
What do I do?
I surrender her.
Duty says "Give her up -
She's too dangerous."
Then why did I save her -
Why'd I risk everything?
Their point makes sense -
Sorceresses are
Too powerful for us -
Too dangerous when free.
Why does my heart ache?
I do the right thing -
My feelings don't matter,
Not on this scale.
When I look at the others,
The looks on their faces
Tell me otherwise.
They say "Fight for her."
I used to be indifferent.
Why does that old habit
When I seek it now,
Seem so impossible?
Is losing Rinoa
Duty's sacrifice?
Or is losing her
A price I cannot pay?
