Lucas Scott sat at his kitchen counter checking his email to see if anyone had responded to the ad he had put in the paper last week for a new nanny. This felt like the millionth search he had been on for a new nanny. Every time he thought he found someone that might actually work, his adorable little girl, would decide that ; that was the appropriate time to act like the child from hell. Which resulted with him again, having no one to watch his baby girl, while he was at basketball.
The weird thing is, if you would have asked him 4 years ago where he would be 4 years into the future, his answer would have not been, a single parent raising his 3 year old daughter, but just like John Lennon said, Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.
His mind wanders back to the day in which his life became what it is today.
"Luke I can't do this anymore"
He looked up from his baby girl, into the eyes of her mother.
"What are you talking about, what can't you do anymore?"
"This", she gestured between her and him. "This playing house, being a mom thing. I just can't do it anymore. I'm 21 years old Lucas. I should be out experiencing the world, going to school, and hanging out with friends on the weekend, not staying at home every day taking care of a baby."
" You've got to be kidding me!" he stared at her in disbelief. "She's your daughter Lindsey, it's our job to take care of her, no matter what the cost!" he yelled.
"You're right, I know you're right. It's just every time I look at her, I can't help but think about all the things that I'm missing out on! I regret having her, I regret ever being with you, I just don't want to do this anymore, I'm not cut out to be a wife or a mother!" She explained.
"Get out." he said as calmly as possible
"Luke….." she started but he cut her off.
"Get the hell out of here Lindsey. I don't care if you regret the fact that we were ever together, but the fact that you would ever say that you regret our daughter, is so incredibly cruel, and I will not allow her to be raised by a mother who doesn't love her and regrets her very existence. Leave now, and don't ever think about coming back, stay the fuck away." His icy stare burned right through her, as she took a step back.
She looked at him like he was completely crazy for a split second, before nodding her head in understanding, and then sliding out the nursery door, walking out of his and Emma's life for good.
He was knocked out of his thoughts as a newspaper slammed down onto the counter.
"Daydreaming again? Who was it this time Jennifer Aniston!"
" Geeze Nate ! You scared the Shit out of me. What the hell are you even doing here? As I remember correctly you have a wife and kid of your own at home." Luke said catching his breath
"Yeah well Hales is at work, and Jamie's with Nanny Deb, so you're stuck with me bro, anyway I brought your paper in for you. What are you doing anyway?"
"Not that it's any of your business, but I'm checking to see if anyone has responded to my ad for a nanny."
"Another one! Geeze man, your daughter must be as bad as her mom." Nate laughed
"Yeah well if she goes through another nanny, she might just be."
"Well seeing as the way you were staring off into space when I came in, I'm guessing no one responded. Which means you should stop worrying about it for a little while, and come shoot hoops with me" Nate suggested.
"Yeah, I guess."
Brooke Davis sat on a park bench in Charlotte, looking in the classifieds for a job. She had just moved back from L.A. and needed something to help with the bills until she could get her fashion career started. As she's looking through she notices an ad for a new nanny.
"Well why the hell not I likes kids and it will help with the bills" she thinks
She sees the address, and realizes it's not that far away.
She makes her way down the street toward her destination. As she continues walking, she notices the further she walks the further she's getting away from the bustling town. She gets to a point where the houses are starting to get further and further apart from each other. She reaches a gate with the address that is printed in the paper. Her curiosity about the parents in need of a nanny peak when she looks past the gate. In the middle of what looks likes many acres of property, lies a huge beautiful house.
Her brows pull together as she searches for a way to get past the gate. She notices a tiny box with a key pad off to the side. She hits the call button, but nothing happens. As she is figuring out which of the other buttons might possibly help her, a voice comes out from from the speaker startling her.
"Can I help you Miss?"
"Um yeah, I'm here to apply for a job. It was in the paper, and it said to come to this address. Am I at the wrong place?" Brooke asked nervously
"No, not if you're looking to apply for the nanny position." The speaker answered
"Well then I'm in the right place. She chuckles softly. Um… How do I get in?"
"I'll buzz you in" the speaker answers again.
"Thanks!"
The gates opened and Brooke walks up to the huge house. She knocks on the door, and when no one comes she rings the doorbell. Finally a lady, who looks to be around her forties, answers the door.
"Can I help you?" she asks
"Um yeah, is there someone looking for a new nanny here?" She bites her lip asking the women nervously.
"O yes! My son is for his daughter!" she responds happily. "But he's at basketball practice. You can come in and wait if you want."
"Thanks" Brooke replies, walking into the house.
"I'm Karen Roe by the way." She sticks out her hand for Brooke.
"Brooke Davis." Brooke shakes her hand, smiling sweetly at the women.
"I'm just going to get my granddaughter, feel free to look around if you like. I'll be back in a minuet." She says leaving Brooke alone.
Brooke starts looking around. She walks into the kitchen which was the size of her apartment in L.A. . She then walks into the living room. She notices pictures on the fireplace. There is one with a blonde guy and a little girl. She studies the guy. He is cute. Short spiked blonde hair, with really pretty blue eyes. He is holding a cute little girl. She has Light brown hair and the same blue eyes. She was guessing, the little girl was the one she would be watching. The guy looks like he could be her dad, but he looks a little young to be a father. She is brought out of her thoughts by Karen entering the room, with the little girl in her arms.
"This is Emma." She says showing Brooke the little girl from the picture.
"Hey Emma, I'm Brooke." Brooke says waving her hand at the little girl.
The little girl waves back shyly then berries her face in Karen's neck.
"She's just a little shy, but once she gets used to you she'll never stop talking." Karen says
She puts the little girl down and lets her go play with the little dolls on the floor. Then she leads Brooke over to the couches. When they sit down Karen begins to ask her Questions.
" So Brooke how long have you been a nanny?"
" I'm actually, not really a nanny. I kind of am just looking for work to help with the bills right now, and since I Love kids, I'd figure that this might be a good way to do that."
" I'm sure you'd be good at it, it's not all that difficult, and you seem like a sweet girl. She responds not at all concerned by the fact that Brooke has no prior experience. "I'm sorry Lucas isn't here he's always at basketball, hopefully he will be here soon!"
"O that's fine I don't mind."
" So have you always lived in Charlotte?" Karen asks trying to make small talk.
" I grew up here, but a couple years ago I moved to L.A."
" Did you move there to go to school?"
" No. I just needed a change." Brooke answers looking away
" Well L.A. is diffidently a change of pace! She says sweetly. " O wow, I didn't realize the time. Do you mind looking after Emma While I go make lunch?" she asks getting up from the couch.
" No that's fine."
"Thanks." Karen says
Brooke walks over to the little girl and starts playing dolls with her
" So Emma how old are you?" Brooke asks
" I's Thwree." The little girl replies
" Really, so do you like playing with dolls?"
" Yaw."
" Who's your favorite?" Brooke asks trying to make conversation
" Belle." Emma replies
"O mines Cinderella."
" You wike Cinderwrella?" Emma says as her eyes lit up
" Yeah she's my favorite. And I love when the price brings her; her shoe."
" Do you Knows the sowngs from Cinderwrella?" Emma asks
" Of course! Do you want to sing them with me?" she smiles at the little girl.
"Yaws!" Emma replies getting excited
Lucas walks in the house from the garage not paying attention to anything, starting to talk to his mom.
"He Ma did Emma ea….."
He stops in the middle of his sentence when he notices Emma singing and dancing with a brunette he's never seen before. His brows nit together in confusion, before he starts panicking.
" Who the hell are you, and why the hell are dancing with my daughter!" Luke yells
Brooke jumps back from Emma startled, and looks at the concerned young father, whose staring at her an Emma with a look of total disbelief. " I um….." Brooke starts to say but gets cut off by Luke.
"Did you break in? Who are you? Why are you here? Get away from my daughter!" He starts rattling off questions and orders.
"What? No you hav…." Brooke gets cut off again
" What was your plan to dance with her, get her to like you, and then kidnap her! You sure as hell better get out of my house or I'm calling the cops."
Just as Lucas gets out his cell phone Karen comes running in the room.
" No Lucas wait! She's not a kidnapper. She just came to interview for the nanny position. I asked her to watch Emma while I made lunch." Karen says trying to calm him down
" What?" Lucas asks Looking at Brooke
" Why didn't you just tell me that?" He asks
" Well I tried to, but you kept freaking out and cutting me off." Brooke explains
"Mom can you take Emma into the Kitchen while I talk to Miss…"
" Brooke! You can call me Brooke." She replies
"While I talk to Brooke." He finishes
Karen leads Emma out of the room While Luke tells Brooke to have a seat so they can talk.
" I'm sorry about that it's just it's kind of a normal reaction when you see your daughter dancing in your house with someone you don't know." Luke apologizes
" Its ok I understand I'd probably feel the same way if I had kids." Brooke replies
" So how long have you been a nanny? ." he starts off.
" Um well I'm not really. I love kids, but I really just need a job while I get settled and get my fashion career started." Brooke answers
" You do realize you're telling me you want me to leave my 3 year old with you every day, without you having any prior experience? He asks in disbelief.
" I know and it sounds crazy, I know it does," she struggles to come up with the right words " but you saw me with her, I love kids, and I'm good with them." She says hoping it might work.
Lucas takes a deep breath, and nods his head. She did seem good with Emma, and Emma seemed to like her, besides he was running out of options, he might as well give it a shot.
"Alright, we'll try it." He says.
" But you do realize you're going to have to move in here, and be here all the time, unless I tell you otherwise." He says hoping she understands how demanding this job is.
She nods, and gives him the most adorable smile he's ever seen. Her dimples on full display. " Yeah I totally understand, I don't mind." She says excitedly.
He's still a little hesitant, but she seems like a genuinely nice person, and he really needs a nanny. He's broken out of his thoughts by his little girl's voice.
" Daddy is Broowke going to bees my new nanny? Cauwse I wreally wike herw." Emma asks with a puppy dog face
" Yeah she is." Looks says looking at Brooke giving her a smile which she happily returns.
