The new battlefield

A sequel to "House's War"

Summary: Wilson said 'to death do them part' – but would it be sooner than House or Cameron expected?

House's mind was finally at peace – his dreams didn't keep him up at night. That job had been turned over to Cameron. After a few months of slow and steady – a rock solid relationship stood before them. For her part, Cameron took one day at a time and didn't pressure House about his feelings. She took what she could get from him. It had been long decided that Wilson had won the office pool, everyone else had only chosen days or weeks.

House wasn't let off the hook either. He took a more active interest in the patients around him in the clinic and that were brought to his attention. It's not to say that he wasn't the same old House. Wilson observed that House would make a 'random act of kindness' appear when he thought no one was looking. Wilson never told anyone –least of all Cameron what he saw. Yes peace had returned to the halls of Princeton – Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.

Wilson walked over to the Diagnostics offices – thinking about getting House to buy lunch. After all he had paid for many lunches. Turning the corner, Wilson saw something he didn't expect – House falling to the floor. Whipping the door open, Wilson rushed to his friend's side. "House, can you hear me?" He got no response. Checking to make sure he still had an airway – Wilson grabbed a phone.

Before the person had a chance to answer, Wilson blasted – "Code Blue – I need a cart in Dr House's office." People began to flood the halls as the PA system called Code Blue –Diagnostics, Code Blue – Diagnostics. The emergency team entered the office. Quickly they pushed Wilson aside and began working to stabilize House. In record time, they had him strapped to a gurney and on the way to the ER.

Wilson watched out for House's team and Dr Cuddy. "Before you ask, I don't know what's wrong. I was walking to his office when I saw him collapse. I called a code and they took him down to ER." Cuddy rushed ahead of them. She was House's primary doctor and need to take control of his case. Foreman and Wilson walked over to a distraught Cameron. Wilson spoke softly to her trying to calm her. Chase stood by, not sure how to help her.

"I'll take her downstairs, why don't you and Chase get ready to run his labs. I tell Cuddy." Foreman nodded pulling Chase away from the pair. Wilson walked Cameron down to the elevator, holding on to the hope that whatever was wrong with House wasn't serious. The doors opened and he guided her inside. Once the door closed, Cameron lost control. She felt Wilson's arms encircle her. "Let it go Cameron, let it go." He held her until they reached the first floor.

Cuddy was waiting from them outside the cubicle. "He's awake. Keep him calm – we're going to move him soon." She nodded and quickly moved to his side. "I've go Foreman and Chase waiting in the lab. What do you think?" Cuddy shrugged, "My first thought is the vicodin use. I've got them drawing for Liver and Kidney function tests. I need to make sure that he's stable before thinking about the next step.

They stepped over to the nurse's station. Wilson watched Cameron as she took his friends hand in hers. "How is she?" Cuddy asked. "She made it through her husband's illness and death. I think she'll be strong enough, I hope."
