This is basically my story of how L grew up and became who he is now.
--
A seven year old boy sat crouched in a computer chair. He'd been in the orphanage since he could remember before that he had been in an infants ward in a hospital. Every one always told him someone someday would adopt him. He knew they only said it because they thought it would give him hope and make him happier.
Eru Lawliet had given up on hope a long time ago. He knew no one would ever want to adopt him. He was seven already, and if no one had wanted to adopt him as an infant, he was pretty sure the percentage of some one adopting him now was less than 5%.
He occupied his spare time solving cases the police had long forgotten about and eating sweets. Most of the time he found sleep was not necessary and only slept from four o'clock in the morning to eight. Due to this odd habit blackness rimmed his jet black orbs.
And that was how twenty three year old Tessa Niles found him. Tessa was a police woman, but recently she had had the idea to adopt a child. Although the orphanage owners tried to persuade her to take a younger, normal child. She had quickly stated that she was looking for an older child who wouldn't need as much looking after since she was away all day during the week. But none of the children they offered seemed to be what she wanted. Tessa thanked them for their time ,and was about to leave, when she turned round to pick up her hand bag and saw the small creature huddled in a corner face buried in a book.
"Who's this?" She asked walking over.
"Oh him? He's just Eru."
Tessa ignored the carer peering at the title of the book.
" 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'," The boys head jerked up at the sound of her voice so close to him. "Oh I'm sorry ,did I scare you?" The boy appeared not to hear her, returning to his book. She tried communicating again."Have you red that book before?"
"four times." His voice was childish yet, lacked emotion. Tessa raised a delicate black eye brow.
She took in the boys small frame, pale skin that was almost white, Messy coal black hair, his face was sweet but could not hide his dark eyes. They were so foll of knowledge and understanding, and something else, sorrow. It was as if he was wearing a mask with only his large dark eyes staring out ,dragging you in and showing you a part of his soul he wished to be hidden. They looked to old for such a young child.
"How about I take him to get an ice cream?" She turned to look at the carer.
"I suppose, you'll have to sign these forms before you go though." She handed her the papers.
"Will you be coming back?" It was obvious they wanted rid of the pore little creature. Tessa looked from the boy and back to the carer. He'd probably be happy to get out of this place.
"No,actually, we won't be coming back." she turned to Eru "What do you think about me becoming your mum?. He looked up at her, then, as if he'd been waiting for this moment, he smiled.
